Member to receive pay increase

A GSU Local 2 (Viterra Head office) member received a position elimination notice on Dec. 2, 2020 with the 120-day notice period expiring on April 1, 2021. When the member inquired whether they would receive the salary increase that was effective Jan. 1, 2021, initially they were told they weren't eligible for the increase. That's when the member contacted the GSU office in Regina.

A quick intervention with Viterra’s HR Director by GSU resolved the matter in favour of the union member who will receive a salary increase retroactive to January 1, 2021, notwithstanding the fact that their last day of employment was April 1.

Sometimes a brief comment, email or meeting is all that is needed to rectify a situation.

Contacting GSU does not mean you are obligated to file a grievance. Call us when you think there is a problem to be fixed and we will work with you to answer your questions and find a solution that works for you.

GSU is awarding $2,000 scholarships to five GSU members, their spouses and children
Have you, your spouse or dependant child been accepted
into university or tech school?

If your answer is YES, you are eligible to apply for a GSU scholarship.
We don't need transcripts or marks, but we do require confirmation the scholarship applicant is enrolled in a diploma, degree, or certificate program at a community college, university, trade school, or technical institute as a full-time student in any country. We also need the applicant to complete our application form, send us their two-page essay on the provided essay topic, and include a letter of recommendation from someone in their community. That's it.

It's easy to apply.

Scholarship forms and additional information are available here.

Deadline for receipt of applications is June 1, 2021.

No question is too small. GSU staff reps are here to assist you.

It's easiest to solve problems in the beginning when they are small, so don't hesitate to contact us when you see something that might need to be addressed.

We will answer your questions and assist you in any way we can, and we won't contact your employer, file a grievance or act on your behalf without consultation, direction, and approval from you.

Avoid life's shortcuts
"If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right."

When you are continually accepting the mediocre, taking shortcuts instead of doing the extra work, or stopping short of reaching your real goals, you are ripping yourself off.

No one wants to look back on life to find they took the easy way out and settled for less than they ultimately wanted or deserved. So whether it means making that dream move across the country, moving on from a bad relationship, or moving toward self improvement, it's time to get moving.
