A Message From Our Principal
Dear TMS Families,

I hope your family had a relaxing Spring Break. We have lots to look forward to during these last two months of the school year.

We continue to take steps to ensure our students follow our Tolt Bear Way of being respectful, responsible, and safe. This week, all students were reminded how to show the Tolt Bear Way. This included that our school takes all reports of HIB (harassment, intimidation, and bullying) and threats very seriously, which can include school consequences and contacting law enforcement. Students were encouraged to report anything that concerns them to a staff member.

Our school continues its work around building and supporting a welcoming school community for all students. On Thursday, May 5, our students will engage in our third and final inclusion and belonging lesson for this year during an extended 1st period. The learning target for the lesson is that students will respond to diversity by building empathy, respect, understanding and connection. Students will listen to a story depicting the themes of diversity and fitting in, and then analyze the supports and challenges of the main character.

Thank you to our fabulous PTSA for organizing our upcoming Staff Appreciation Week from May 2 through May 6. Our staff does so much every day for our students, and our students are truly fortunate to have such caring, dedicated, and talented staff here at Tolt. Please consider sharing with those staff members who have made a positive impact on your student just how grateful you are for them.

State testing is coming up during the last two weeks in May. All students will take the SBA in English Language Arts and Math, and 8th graders will take the WCAS in science. More information is below. Your help in ensuring your student is at school and ready to do their best on testing days is appreciated.

8th grade families, please plan on attending or watching our Moving Up Ceremony, which will be in-person on Thursday, June 16 at 7PM at Cedarcrest High School. During this time, we will honor our outstanding group of 8th graders. All current health and safety guidelines will be followed. This event will be livestreamed so families may choose to watch this event instead of attending in-person. More information will be shared with 8th grade families closer to the end of the year.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing your student with us. Go Bears!

Amie Karkainen, Principal
