The Masonry Society is now accepting sponsorships for its popular Sustainability E-News, which is developed by Christine Subasic , to keep the industry, practi tioners, and others updated on issues related to sustainability, resiliency, energy, and more. Published twice per month, Sustainability E-News provides positive frequent exposure to sponsors. It is sent directly to over 3300 subscribers by TMS, and it is received/viewed by many more as it is distributed and posted by many other organizations. Sponsorship rates are also very reasonable, starting at only $ 250/year and going up to the platinum level at just $1500 for the year. Preparations are well underway for the North American Masonry Conference that will be held from June 16-19, 2019 in beautiful Salt Lake City. Authors of the more than 230 abstracts are now preparing manuscripts for review, which are due on November 5, 2018.

Attention engineers, architects, suppliers/manufacturers, contractors, educators, and anyone else involved in the specifying, designing, installing, and/or manufacturing of masonry and related assemblies!  What do you wish graduating structural engineers knew about masonry?  Heather Sustersic (Providence Engineering; member of TMS 402/602 Structural Members and Reinforcement and Connectors Subcommittees) and Mary Haynes (Providence Engineering) would like your input for a paper that they are authoring for the upcoming North American Masonry Conference (NAMC) that will help educators prioritize the material presented in their masonry courses.

As has been reported, the 13th North American Masonry Conference is rapidly approaching. At the conference, it is hoped that the site for the 14th North American Masonry Conference, which will be held in 2023, can be announced. Therefore, The Masonry Society is accepting proposals from interested universities/professors wishing to host the conference. Proposals must be submitted to TMS no later than May 1, 2019. Details on proposal requirements are outlined here.

As reported in earlier e-newsletters, The Masonry Society (TMS) will be hosting two technical sessions at the 2019 SEI Structures Congress that will be held in Orlando, Florida from April 24-27. Topics and speakers include:

The Masonry Society (TMS) is now accepting applications for the 2019 James L. Noland Student Fellowship until April 16, 2019 ( Click here for Rules and the Application). Established in 1995 to honor the memory of James L. Noland, the Noland Fellowship is awarded every four years to a graduate student who is doing research on masonry. This research can be in materials, structures, architecture, or construction and must be performed under the direction of a member of The Masonry Society. The current value of the award is $3,000 US. The next award will be presented in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 16 - 19, 2019, at the 13th NAMC.

With the approval of the Board of Directors and the Technical Activities Committee, the Design Practices Committee will publish new version of Standard Method for Determining the Sound Transmission Class of Masonry Walls (TMS 302-18) later this month. Renewing Members of The Masonry Society will be able to access the Standard online once it is available. Watch TMS's website and future editions of the e-newsletter for details.
