CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF PIONEERING PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH - SEGMENT 2

In the public involvement and community relations arena, The Merchant Strategy, Inc. has had two impactful decades dedicated to fostering community engagement and relationships.

Through Sharon Merchant's leadership, The Merchant Strategy, Inc. has always made it a priority to give back when needed in the form of public service. An example of this unfolded through Sharon's role on the board of directors for both the Palm Beach County Historical Society and Discover the Palm Beaches. Serving as a board member, she advocated for community-centric efforts to promote respect for our past and responsible efforts to promote our local tourism. The history of The Merchant Strategy, Inc. is etched with Sharon's unwavering commitment to understanding and representing community perspectives.

In the 2010-11 Discover the Palm Beaches board of directors group picture, I'm sure you'll recognize a lot of familiar faces, embodying the collaborative spirit that has defined The Merchant Strategy, Inc.

WORK WITH THE WESTGATE CRA

The Merchant Strategy (TMS) has been retained by the Westgate/Belvedere Homes Community Redevelopment Agency (“Westgate CRA”) to provide public outreach on three of their infrastructure improvement projects. To ensure that residents and business owners are informed and listened to, TMS will develop a community-wide database, provide meeting logistics, create meeting collaterals, set up and staff a project hotline, attend public meetings to assist and take notes and provide social media content. These projects are: Cherry Road Pedestrian Improvements Project; Seminole Boulevard Complete Streets Project; and Westgate Avenue Streetscape Improvements Project. We will also develop, host, and maintain a project webpage for the Westgate Avenue Streetscape Improvements Project.

The Westgate CRA is the only community redevelopment agency in unincorporated Palm Beach County. They are the County’s CRA. The Westgate CRA was created to encourage the redevelopment of the Westgate area of unincorporated Palm Beach County. Their ongoing mission is to eliminate blighted conditions and increase the tax base through community engagement, advancing economic opportunity, new housing availability, and improvements to public infrastructure.

PAW-TECTOR IN CHIEF - GUEST APPEARANCE

Editor’s note:

TMS colleagues will highlight their security dogs until we find a full-time Chief of Security replacement for our dear Sally.

Hi,

My name is Buford, and I am eleven years old, other names I am known for are Mr. B., Buffinator, and very good boy. I am named after an old movie called Walking Tall with Sheriff Bufford T Pusser quoted as saying walk quietly and carry a big stick. (I love to carry sticks) I live with my Mom and Dad in Little River SC. My Mom Colleen works for The Merchant Strategy in SC. I guard this division. Every time my Mom is on a virtual meeting for work, I bug her and make her take me out to do potties or just bark so she pays attention to me because I am important. My hobbies are sleeping, walking (love walking on the beach), long car rides, butt scratches, begging for Coors Light, and my favorite is eating. Auntie Sharon gives the bestest butt scratches ever!!! She calls me BuBu.

I am originally from Connecticut. We have been here a year, and everything is very interesting and fun to sniff except snakes and spiders. My mom screams when we see one when we are walking. Psst. Don’t tell mom but I like peeing on the big palm trees. They have anoles here that look like little lizards, and they come in green and brown. Mom says if I eat one, she will never speak to me again. So, she says... I just like following them around. Mom tells me there is a town named after me in SC spelled differently (Beaufort SC). I could be their mascot because my Mom says I look very distinguished with my white mustache on my muzzle. I am the full time SC TMS Chief of Security because I am good with people and give them hugs and kisses and wiggle my butt for cuteness. I have a great big loud bark for any bad guys. Think of the leftovers I am willing to wolf down. Less garbage to throw out. Well until next time our loyal followers!

Paws out,

Love Buford the fun-loving Labrador AKA SC TMS Chief of Security
