A Message From Our Principal | |
|
Dear Tolt Families,
It was wonderful to see so many parents and guardians attend last week’s conferences. Thank you for taking the time to connect with our teachers. If you would like to share feedback about our conferences, please complete this short survey. We truly value partnering with our families to support student learning.
We are continuing to be intentional in our efforts to deepen our sense of community. Last week, our 6th graders reunited with their 8th grade WEB leaders to check-in with each other. Our recent 8th grade Astronomy Night was well attended by students and families. Our TMS Inclusion Advisory Team had its first meeting this week. Many of our clubs are starting up, including our Math Team, TSA, GSA, Jazz Band, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. And, our first Spirit Week is coming up during the last week of October and will be highlighted by our student-staff volleyball game assembly.
As a result of hearing from several parents concerns about backpack weight, we are currently in conversations as a staff around ways we can help lighten student backpacks. While it may take us a little time to come up with solutions, please know these concerns are being heard.
Thank you for trusting us to work with your student(s). We are fortunate to have such awesome students at Tolt.
Warmly,
Amie Karkainen, Principal

Greetings Parents and Guardians!
As part of our ongoing work to optimize our students’ school experiences, we will be engaging in a variety of activities to ensure all students feel connected to
their peers, teachers, and school staff. To assess whether our efforts
are strengthening students’ sense of belonging we are partnering with Puget Sound Educational Service District to deliver an anonymous survey 3 times this year. We will not be able to identify students based on their responses and all
survey results will be collected by PSESD and integrated into data visuals for
our review.
If you agree to this survey, your child will be asked to complete the survey online in their social studies class, which would take approximately 10 minutes. Participation in this survey is voluntary. If you do not wish your child to take this survey, please contact Theresa Tenney in our main office at
425-844-4601 or tenneyth@rsd407.org no later than October 21, 2022.
We look forward to using this survey to help us to ensure our students feel connected to others in our school community.

Tolt Astronomy Night
Our astronomy night for our 8th grade students and their families, hosted by Mr. Coats (Tolt science teacher), was a wonderful evening filled with captivating planets--Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon as well as a galaxy, a dying star and a globular cluster!
More than 100 people (babies to grandparents) attended and most were able to control the telescopes themselves. We used an 8" automatic telescope (purchased with a PTSA grant--thank you!) plus more than a dozen of 3" to 10" telescopes in aperture and personal telescopes brought by our families. It was a grand night filled with sounds from viewers like "whoa", "cool!", "wow!", and "I can see the RINGS!" Check out some of the photos below:

If your student(s) do not feel well, keep them home and notify Attendance and/or Nurse Rachel, Tolt School Nurse. Follow the WA DOH Symptom/Exposure Flowchart for guidance on symptoms.
Be sure to stay up-to-date on immunizations to help support a healthy school and community for everyone!
