A Message From Our Principal | |
Dear Tolt Families,
Our high turn-out at Curriculum Night last night reminded me once again how grateful we are to have such supportive families at Tolt. Our staff valued the opportunity to connect with you and share how we can partner together to support your student. Please do reach out throughout the year if there is ever anything we can do for your student.
We hope to again see many parents and guardians during our upcoming conferences. This is an excellent opportunity early in the year to talk with teachers about your student’s progress. Arena-style conferences will be on Thursday, October 6 from 4:30-7PM in the Tolt MPR. Online conferences via Teams and phone calls will be on Friday, October 7 from 8-11AM and 12-3PM. Below is more information about our upcoming conferences.
I know we are all ready to move on from COVID, and students are also getting colds and other illnesses. Please keep your student home when they are sick. If they have symptoms on the COVID symptom list, they should have a negative test and be feeling better before returning to school. Please see Nurse Rachel’s information below for greater details.
Thank you for sharing your incredible students with us!
Go Bears!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thursday, October 6th and Friday, October 7th
We are looking forward to connecting with parents and guardians during our upcoming conferences. Since parents and guardians indicated strong interest in both in-person arena-style conferences and online via Teams, times are available for both.
Thursday, October 6th:
Arena-Style Conferences from 4:30-7 PM in the Tolt MPR
All parents and guardians are welcome to attend our arena-style conferences during the evening of Thursday, October 6th. Just show up--no need to sign up in advance. Teachers will keep conversations around 5 minutes so they can talk with all their families. Since conferences will end on time, please arrive early enough to have plenty of time to both wait in line and talk with your student's teachers. Interpreting services will be available.
Friday, October 7th:
Online via Teams or Phone Call from 8-11AM and 12-3PM
Parents and guardians may sign up in advance for conferences with any of their student’s teachers or their counselor.
- When you sign up, you will have the option of choosing a conference either via Microsoft Teams or a phone call. If you choose a conference via Microsoft Teams, on the day of your scheduled conference, please click on the link in the confirmation email you will receive after you sign up at the start time of the conference. If you choose a conference over the phone, the teacher or counselor will call you at the designated time using the number you include when you sign up.
- Because conferences are scheduled to start every 10 minutes, the teacher will end each conference so they can be on time for their next conference. You can anticipate having around 5 minutes for each conference.
-
Here is the link to a video about how to sign up for online conferences via Teams or a phone call.

Here is the link to sign up for online conferences via Teams or a phone call.
If you do not know the names of your student’s teachers, you can check in Skyward Family Access under the schedule tab.
Attending conferences is optional for parents and guardians. Furthermore, you may choose to only conference with some of your student’s teachers. Our staff is always willing to talk with parents and guardians if you ever think it would be helpful for your student(s).
Note that our students will not attend school on Friday, October 7 as teachers will be in conferences.
Making it a priority to attend conferences is a great way to get personalized feedback about how your student is doing at Tolt. We hope to see you at our conferences in October!

Dam Evacuation Drill
Wednesday, September 28
Your student(s) received a yellow letter about the Tolt Dam Evacuation Drill. The drill is taking place on Wednesday, September 28. Each year all Riverview students in Carnation schools (Tolt Middle School, Carnation Elementary, and the Riverview Learning Center) participate in a Tolt Dam Evacuation Drill. Students learn how to safely evacuate campus by following the route to the evacuation site, which would be used in the unlikely event of a dam breach. Please read the linked brochure --it has helpful information to assist families with dam evacuation plans.

A Special Event for our
Multilingual Families
Tolt Middle School was pleased to hold a unique event for multilingual families just prior to Curriculum Night. The event was specially designed for families of students in our ELD (English Language Development) classes to learn more about Tolt Middle School and to provide feedback to our multilingual educators. Families received information about our school, Skyward, ELD class goals and supporting the home language. A Spanish interpreter was also present. The Tolt staff wants multilingual families to feel welcome at Tolt and appreciates the opportunity to deepen these relationships. Thanks to your support from the levy, we were able to host this event for the first time.
