A Message From Our Principal

Dear Tolt Families,

Our first week back to school has been fabulous! It was wonderful to meet our 6th graders on Tuesday. Throughout the morning, our 6th graders spent time getting to know each other, learning about Tolt from our 8th grade WEB leaders, and were laughing more and more. In the afternoon, it was so much fun to again see our 7th and 8th graders. Throughout the week, students have been participating in community building activities in their classes to set the tone for a great year of learning together.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, during our first Tolt Time of the year, we shared about our Student Handbook (English/Spanish) with our students. We will continue to remind students of the Tolt Bear Way throughout the year.

Our Curriculum Night is coming up on Thursday, September 22 starting at 6:15PM in the TMS Gym. This is your opportunity to meet your student’s teachers, walk their schedule, and learn a bit about their classes. We are excited this event is again in-person and hope you can attend.

Thank you to those of you who provided feedback about the format of our upcoming conferences. We had strong interest in both in-person arena-style and online via Teams, so times will be available for both. On Thursday, October 6 from 4:30-7PM, teachers will be in the MPR at Tolt for in-person arena-style conferences. On Friday, October 7 from 8-11AM and 12-3PM, parents and guardians will be able to conference with their student’s teachers online via Teams. We will also host a Scholastic Book Fair that week and during conferences. Be on the lookout for more information about conferences coming soon.

We are off to a strong start. This is going to be a great year at Tolt for our students!

Go Bears!

Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families:

I am so excited to be the librarian here at Tolt this year! I cannot wait to meet all the students, get them excited about reading, and to find them books that they will not want to put down! To kick off the school year, get students reading and bulk up reading options throughout the school, we will be hosting a book fair after a two-year hiatus!

Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from October 3rd-7th in the MPR at Tolt Middle School.

This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/toltmiddleschool

The countdown to more Bookjoy is on! Catch you at the Fair!

Happy reading,

Carrie Holeman

COVID-19 Guidance

New and Updated COVID-19 Guidance for Fall 2022

Dear Riverview Parents, Students, Staff, and Families,

Washington State Department of Health recently updated its COVID-19 school and child care guidance on August 5, 2022. Following these safety measures reduces the spread of COVID-19. This communication further explains how the updated guidance impacts your family and the greater Riverview community.

Health and Safety Requirements for this Fall:

  • Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate at home for 5 days following a positive test. If symptoms improve, and they have had no fever for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, students and staff can return to school and are encouraged to test before returning. See Page 2 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance.

  • Students and staff returning to school after isolation should wear a well-fitting mask from days 6 to 10. Individuals returning to school from isolation should also remain masked for sports and other extracurricular activities. See Page 6 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance.

  • Schools must inform students, families, and staff when there are cases or outbreaks in school. Schools are no longer required to directly notify high risk students or staff. See Page 3 of COVID-19 school and child care guidance. Riverview School District will continue to update the COVID-19 Dashboard (https://www.engage.rsd407.org/dashboard). We will also communicate cases and outbreaks to families through the district's COVID-19 Dashboard and/or school newsletters.

These requirements are in place for all public and private K-12 schools and child care facilities in Washington state. Schools and childcare facilities are required by state law to follow these guidelines.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing for staff and students at the district office, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Households are encouraged to test as needed at home. In Washington state, you can receive free self-tests from the Say Yes! COVID Test program. Most insurance covers the costs of up to eight (8) self-tests per individual per month.

COVID-19 vaccinations remain the best protection for everyone against hospitalization and severe disease from COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children 6 months and older. Booster doses are also available for children 5 years or older. You are encouraged to vaccinate your children if they are eligible, in consultation with your health care provider.

You can reach out to your school nurse for help or more information. We look forward to continuing to provide safe and healthy spaces for our students and staff when they return this fall.

Sincerely,

Molly Lutz

Director of Student Services
