Join Jay Wright of CASAS as he addresses common data management concerns from CAEP agencies that will help CAEP consortia prepare for performance-based goal setting activities in the new CAEP three year plan. This first workshop will provide a review of CAEP outcomes and services, updates to the CAEP reports in TE, identify different ways to review learner performance and persistence, and detail some student driven examples of activities that generate outcomes. |

CAEP Reminder: 2021-22 CFAD
|

The CFADs are due in less than a week! By May 3, 2021, each consortium is to certify the 2021-22 CFAD. There will be no extensions granted.
CAEP TAP have contacted a number of consortia who have either not started the CFAD process, or have submitted the CFAD, but members have not approved.
If you have questions or are experiencing difficulty, there are a couple of options available. Review the March 26th CFAD webinar for a live demonstration on how to complete the CFAD, or contact CAEP TAP at tap@caladulted.org for assistance.

PPIC: Recovery in Los Angeles is Tied to Hospitality and Hollywood
|

In the first post of a series analyzing how job sectors will affect economic recovery in five California regions, PPIC addresses the Los Angeles economy. A year ago, COVID-19 caused California’s economy to shut down, putting 3 million people out of work. The Los Angeles economy declined faster than in many other regions, driven by shocks to hardest-hit service sectors and the movie and film industry. Although Los Angeles was the hardest hit, they have bounced back quicker. As of March 2021, employment in Los Angeles has recovered 64% of losses during the first three months of the pandemic, compared to 59% statewide. However, unemployment is still 10.9%—much higher than the statewide 8.2%. Read the blog post to learn more about the Los Angeles county economic recovery. |

Farms, Freight, and Retail Support the Recovery in Central California
|
|
In the first post of a series analyzing how job sectors will affect economic recovery in five California regions, PPIC addresses the Central California economy. The labor market in Central California exemplifies the striking differences in COVID-19’s impact on regional economies. Over the past year, employment in the Central Valley from Bakersfield to Stockton and along the Central Coast from Santa Barbara to Monterey fared slightly better than other regions. A lower reliance on hard-hit industries buffered Central California from the severe declines in places like Los Angeles. However, unemployment levels remain high in every Central Valley county, with Kern, Merced, and Tulare above 11% as of March 2021, significantly higher than the 8.2% statewide. This reflects above-average unemployment rates in the region from before COVID hit, which could challenge long-term recovery. CAEP State Priorities’ Webinars

In March 2021, the CAEP Office introduced the CAEP State Priorities. California adult education state priorities are aligned with the CCCCO’s Vision for Success goals and CDE’s Adult Education Office State Plan. The state priorities are: Learner Transition, Program Development/Curriculum/Classroom, Equity, Leadership, Technology & Distance Learning, Program Evaluation, and Marketing. To continue to message and address the CAEP state priorities, the CAEP Office and CAEP TAP have invited local practitioners whose program currently align with a state priority to share their practices. Utilizing SB 554 to enroll nonresident and resident HSE and HSD students in credit college courses (Learner Transition)

Fall 2020 marked Chaffey College's implementation of a structured SB 554 program in collaboration with the adult schools in its district. This presentation, featuring presenters from Chaffey Adult School and Chaffey College will review elements of the "special admit" designation, E-forms used for enrolling HSD/HSE students in credit courses, onboarding, ed planning, and fee waivers for nonresidents. The presentation will also discuss some of the barriers that occur as students move from dual enrollment HSD/HSE to "first-time" or "returning" college students.

Recruitment of Adult Learners During COVID-19 (Marketing)

The pandemic has created the necessity for workforce and education providers to re-evaluate traditional outreach methods (community events, office walk-ins) that are no longer effective in reaching adult learners, especially those vulnerable and underinvested population. This session is designed to help participants understand why a new recruitment lens is required during COVID-19. Participants learn 1) a formula to create personas and effective messages that engage adult learners; 2) the best outreach mediums to maximize exposure for your programs; and 3) how to tailor a newly launched communications toolkit that is part of the national campaign #MoveAheadWithAdultEd to meet your local enrollment goals.

CASAS Data Dive Series - Part II

CAEP TAP announces three workshops from CASAS that address common data management concerns from CAEP agencies, and that will help CAEP consortia prepare for performance-based goal setting activities in the new CAEP three year plan. This second workshop, will address ways to identify strengths and needs, and review barriers and equity. Review some new reports and report features that help identify outcomes and expectations for targeted priority groups of students. It will also address how to incorporate these identified priorities and create concrete performance goals. The session will give several examples of how goal setting is used in NRS federal reporting, how to apply this process for CAEP reporting.
