“Increasing Research Engagement and Entry into a PhD Program: Evaluation of PEERS, a STEM Retention Initiative for Underrepresented Undergraduates at UCLA”
Friday, May 12, 2017 | 2:00-3:00pm | 1100 Terasaki Life Sciences Building [TLSB]
Our previous study had shown that PEERS students obtain higher grades and persist at higher rates in STEM majors through their second year in comparison to a control group. We extended the study and investigated the effect of participation in PEERS on conducting undergraduate research, graduating with a STEM degree, and enrolling in a graduate degree program.
About the PEERS Program:
The UCLA Program for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences (PEERS) is an intensive program committed to promoting academic excellence and professional development for students dedicated to careers in the life or physical sciences or mathematics. The primary objective of the program is to increase the number of students who develop a strong foundation in the sciences and make teaching and/or research a part of their life’s work.
No RSVP needed. We hope to see you there!
