A MOTHER OF THREE TAKES SANCTUARY AT HOLYROOD CHURCH IN WASHINGTON HEIGHTS TO PROTECT HER CHILDREN FROM BECOMING ICE ORPHANS
New York, NY - Amanda, a working mom of three U.S. citizen children, has lived with her family in New York for over a decade after fleeing death threats in Guatemala. The government wants to deport her, and Amanda now faces a decision no mother should have to make: take her children with her to Guatemala where they face widespread violence in a country they don't know, or leave her children to grow up without the love that only she can give as their parent. Like any mother, Amanda wants to continue being there for her children, seeing them grow and eventually graduate from school and go to college.
Amanda no longer wants to walk in the shadows. In order to protect her children she has decided to go into sanctuary as she, together with her family, friends, and community demands the justice that she needs. Thanks to the The New Sanctuary Movement which has deep roots in many of our faith traditions. Amanda and her children can protect themselves. Hospitality and protection of the most vulnerable are hallmarks of this movement.
¨We cannot be indifferent to human suffering¨, Fr. Luis Barrios from Holyrood Church states and continues, ¨sanctuary nowadays is a moral obligation that demands from us to defy an immigration law that is unjust.¨
Amanda only request to the immigration authorities is to reopen her case and to have her day in court. That's why TODAY, we will hold a press conference at 5:00pm at Holyrood Church in Washington Heights and Amanda and her children will be taking sanctuary.

UNA MADRE DE TRES TOMA SANTUARIO EN LA IGLESIA DE HOLYROOD EN ALTURAS DE WASHINGTON PARA PROTEGER A SUS HIJOS QUE SE HACEN HACER FRUTOS DE HIELO
New York, NY - Amanda es una madre que trabaja y tiene tres niños ciudadanos estadounidenses, y que ha vivido con su familia en Nueva York por más de una década después de huir de las amenazas de muerte en Guatemala. El gobierno de los Estados Unidos quiere ahora deportarla, y Amanda ahora enfrenta una decisión que ninguna madre debería tener que hacer: llevar a sus hijos con ella a Guatemala donde se enfrentan a la violencia generalizada en un país que no conocen, o dejar a sus hijos crecer sin el Amor que sólo ella puede dar como su padre.
