This is a milestone year for our country as it celebrates our 250th birthday. It is a milestone event for the WCC Scouts as it is the 60th anniversary of Scouts hosting a Klondike Derby in Central Bucks County. This year, new challenges for the Scouts await them as participants in the event return to the Lakeside of Camp Ockanickon.
This will be a new location and experience for many of the Scouts. It will also be a "Sled-less" Klondike Derby as the Scouts will need to carry all of the required gear for the various stations and their lunch break in their backpacks. No Sleds will be used at this year's Derby.
Scouts will need to be prepared to travel to all events with their gear on their backs like many of those seeking gold in the Alaskan Gold Rush. What events will the Scouts be challenged with, think survival in the fridged Yukon Tundra. Stations may include, but are not limited to: Pioneering, First Aid, Shelter Building, and Fire Building, to name a few. It will require preparation, teamwork and planning. As the Scout Motto states, BE PREPARED, and of course, have fun - See you there!
Date: January 24
