The sun is shining, trees are blossoming, and life is good. Here at Maria’s Bookshop, the warm weather means it is finally time for us to start getting our bump-out garden planted. On Monday we filled the large planter box in front of the shop with a nice variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. Of course, we have plans for more flowers and veggies, but getting some big plants in the ground felt like a great start.
There are plenty of reasons I’m excited to bring the bump-out garden back for another year. Providing a pleasant space for customers and anyone downtown to hang out, read a new book and take a load off their feet is reason enough. More than that, though, I truly hope that this public green space downtown offers everyone a glimpse at just how much more pleasant Downtown Durango would be with a few more trees and a few less cars. We have a pretty special downtown already, but imagine what it might be like if the ambiance of the Maria’s Bookshop bump-out extended all the way up and down Main Ave.
