The Children's Trust Announces
Miami International Child & Adolescent Mental Health Conference - Registration Open!
The Center for Children and Families at FIU Miami International Child and Adolescent Mental Health (MICAMH) Conference  is happening  February 20-22 . This is the leading interdisciplinary conference that presents state-of-the-art, evidence-based prevention and treatment interventions for mental health and educational problems in children and adolescents. During the three-day conference, practitioners will attend keynote talks and workshops to learn hands-on evidence-based strategies for diverse child mental health topics including bullying, the psychological aftermath of school shootings, adolescent suicide, resilience in childhood, school-based mentoring and more.

SPARK Training - Two Sessions Available
The Children's Trust is sponsoring two SPARK curriculum trainings for YAS providers on the dates below. If your agency implements SPARK for its fitness programming, the staff member who delivers your SPARK curriculum should attend. Registration required; reserve your spot via our community calendar. Panel Discussion: Funding Collaborations & Building Ecosystems
Enjoy a morning of networking and dynamic programming featuring local grantmakers and nonprofit organizations discussing collaborations for greater community impact. In partnership with the Miami-Dade County Public Library System and Grant Coordination, Foundation Center, and The Children's Trust, we invite you to join us and learn how to engage in collective work, while gaining insight into the grantmaker/grantee relationship and how to establish strong partnerships. This program explores how to cultivate relationships with other organizations and funders to strengthen your outcomes, and you'll hear encouraging success stories sprinkled with the pitfalls to avoid when working with multiple stakeholders. Take part to gain access to funders’ perspectives, collaboration best practices and funding resources, while building your nonprofit's ecosystem.

Attention Early Learning Educators: Earn More at Your Current Job
The Child Care WAGE$ FLORIDA program is now available to ALL early learning programs in Miami-Dade! Operated by the Children’s Forum and funded by The Children's Trust, WAGE$ provides education-based salary supplements to teachers working with children ages birth to 5 (center directors to not qualify). Designed to increase the quality of child care programs, WAGE$ rewards teachers based on their level of education and retention with their program. Parenting: Content Area Team Program Observations
Our content area team (CAT) members will be visiting Trust-funded parenting programs individually to conduct program observations; these visits will take place between February 4 and March 22. CAT members have been trained to implement the initiative-specific observation tool with fidelity in order to capture your program's strengths and discuss opportunities for improvement. In order for them to properly coordinate and schedule multiple site visits within this short period of time, all relevant providers were asked to submit a final version of their schedule to their contract manager no later than January 25. All relevant providers also received an initiative-specific email with additional guidance regarding their CAT observation visit.

Advocacy Network on Disabilities: Upcoming Trainings

  • Structures for Success Friday, February 22, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200th Street, Cutler Bay, FL 33157. This training provides participants with a toolbox of preventative strategies for working with youth with and without disabilities who are experiencing behavioral challenges.
  • Count Me In * Friday March 1, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Gwen Cherry, 7090 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33147. This training uses hands-on activities to teach staff how to build disability awareness and encourage children to appreciate differences.
  • Navigating Community Resources Friday, March 1, 10 a.m. - noon, Greater Miami Youth for Christ, 1055 Mowry Drive, Homestead, FL 33030. This training introduces participants to the most commonly needed resources for children and youth with disabilities, and to the agencies and systems in which they reside.
  • Introduction to Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Part 1 - ONLINE This online course provides program staff with introductory information about autism spectrum disorder, including definitions and various ways in which these conditions may manifest. Content also includes information about helping youth meet behavioral expectations, recognizing and accommodating those with sensory sensitivities, assisting youth with fostering social competence, addressing bullying and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Discovering Inclusion Training - ONLINE Discovering Inclusion is an introductory workshop for staff with little or no previous knowledge about children and youth with disabilities and inclusion. It includes an introduction to various types of disabilities, identifying the benefits of inclusion for all, using People First Language and respectful etiquette, and the characteristics of an inclusive program. There is also an opportunity to explore personal beliefs and values.

Lunch & Learn Workshop: Emotional Literacy *
Triumph Steps announces an emotional literacy lunch and learn, designed to teach providers how to give children the tools they need to minimize limiting thoughts; and overcome depression, anxiety, fear and much more. Nurturing Parenting Facilitator Training *
This three-day training will focus on understanding the philosophy of nurturing parenting; assessing high-risk parenting beliefs and environments; creating competency-based parenting lessons and programs tailored to meet the individual parenting needs of families; and implementing programs at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention. Join Sandy Hook Promise's National Say Something Week
During the week of February 25 - March 1, thousands of schools and youth organizations will participate in National Say Something Week. Say Something raises awareness of school violence and suicide, and educates students and the community through training, advertising, public proclamations, contests and school awards. This week reinforces the power young people have to prevent tragedies and save lives when they "say something" to a trusted adult, and local schools and youth groups are strongly encouraged to participate.
