SLHTA meets with Marigot Bay members

SLHTA CEO Noorani Azeez and Board Representative for Small Properties Dean LaForce met with representatives of SLHTA member companies located in Marigot Bay to discuss opportunities for improvement of the business community in the area. Emerging from a previous engagement to discuss issues and challenges facing the small hotel sector, SLHTA representatives assembled to receive an update from law enforcement representatives, vendors and members of the accommodation sector on challenges and opportunities for collaboration. Crime and visitor security were identified as key challenges affecting entrepreneurs as well as sanitation concerns, garbage disposal, impact of rising sea levels, human resources training and development.

The party outlined a plan of action which includes wider stakeholder engagement, community clean up campaigns and the participation of the business community in supporting the work of the SLHTA’s Tourism Enhancement Fund.
SLHTA signs MoU with Saint Lucia Hyperbaric Chamber

The Saint Lucia Hyperbaric Society and the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding which appoints Karolin Troubetzkoy and Noorani Azeez to the Board of Directors of the Hyperbaric Society. The move was designed to ensure the sustainable management of Saint Lucia’s only Hyperbaric Chamber, donated to the island by Ms. Barbara Perfect a few years ago. Over the past few years, the Hyperbaric Chamber was used for treating divers, fishers and diabetics suffering from a number of ailments including diabetes related amputations and the bends.

The appointment of the two SLHTA Directors will also ensure a closure partnership between the two organizations, seeking to address their goal of improved healthcare. The Hyperbaric Chamber is housed at the Tapion Hospital and can be accessed after appropriate diagnosis by medical practitioners at the Tapion Hospital.

Over the coming months Troubetzkoy and Azeez have set about an ambitious strategy to engage other partners and financial donors to support the work of the facility, as well as to ensure its benefits are accessible by fishermen, diabetic patients and divers in need. The MoU was signed at Sugar Beach last week Thursday.
