------The Town of Oro Valley’s proposed use tax will not move forward as originally planned, following a breakdown in the state approval process.
------Earlier this year, Town Council approved a use tax ordinance in January. However, the Arizona Department of Revenue did not update the official tax code within the required timeframe, ultimately voiding the ordinance. According to the Town, all materials were submitted to the State at 8 days within the 10-day required window.
------Because of this, the process now has to start over.
------At the Council meeting on April 8th, Council voted to authorize restarting the process, which includes re-noticing the potential tax and bringing a new ordinance forward for consideration. The item is expected to return to Council in June.
------For now, the use tax is not in effect, and any future implementation will require Council approval again.
| | Chamber hosts Ciscomani roundtable | |
------The Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, recently hosted a roundtable with U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani and local business leaders to discuss recent federal tax changes and what they mean for Southern Arizona.
------The conversation focused on provisions within the newly passed federal tax legislation and how they may impact small businesses, investment, and job creation. Business leaders had the opportunity to ask questions directly and gain clarity on how the updates could affect their operations.
------Discussions highlighted the importance of making complex tax and regulatory changes more accessible to small businesses that are already focused on day-to-day operations. The roundtable also emphasized the role of tax policy in supporting long-term economic growth and innovation at the local level.
------The event is part of a broader national effort by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to engage business communities and provide insight into federal policy changes affecting the economy.
