Information Seminars - Autumn 2019
Because many of our clients ask general questions about estate planning subjects, and because these topics can be overwhelming and confusing, we are offering free information seminars to existing clients and the general public. We will cover a variety of topics, including estate planning, probate and trust administration, Life Care Planning, special needs trusts, and guardianships/conservatorships.

There is no cost or other obligation for attending, but we do ask that you call in advance for a reservation so that sufficient seating will be available. Please call 757-969-1900 to register. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Napping and Alzheimer's

This month's featured article focuses on napping! Who doesn't like a good nap? It sure is a great thing to do on a rainy afternoon. An article was recently published about the changes in sleep-wake cycles and Alzheimer's Disease, and the connections made between the two are quite interesting. A research study recently noted a trend between the onset of Alzheimer's and an increase in taking naps during the day. Don't be alarmed, though: napping is a part of life, and just because you like to nap doesn't necessarily mean Alzheimer's is looming in the future. But, it's nice to be informed of research as it comes along. You can find the full USA Today article here.

Google Home Devices: Not Just For Millennials
It's hard to keep up with technology as fast as it is changing. Long gone are landline phones and writing a letter to a friend by hand. Seniors aren't the only ones who struggle to stay up to date with the latest trends. However, as technology gets better, it can make day-to-day tasks easier for those of every age.

For example, Google Home is a voice-activated daily assistant that can control devices around the house, make calls, provide entertainment, and answer over 100 million unique questions. You can link it to the TV, radio, thermostat and more by installing a compatible device and activating connections on your phone’s Home app. This virtual helper responds to voice commands, which means that someone with limited vision or reduced finger dexterity can easily use it. It offers seniors a way to find more independence by setting up daily reminders for important things like remembering to take medication or feed the dog, and can even assist with contacting family members in a time of crisis.

To find out more about how Google Home can help you or your family members, check out the full article here.
