LIFE FORCE Air Medical, Erlanger Health System’s air medical program has a new tool onboard to care for the most critically ill COVID-19 patients. The ventilation therapy hood, was first used in Italy to provide COVID-19 patients a comfortable alternative to traditional ventilation therapy. It has recently been granted emergency use authorization by the FDA in treating COVID patients.

Mammography services at Lewis Health Center have been awarded a renewed three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology.

“Lewis Health Center staff members and physicians make continual strides to enhance the quality of care for our patients. This renewed accreditation is the result of their focus on quality and safety. We are grateful for all those involved in the accreditation process,” said LHC Operations Director Hugh Bennett.

Last week, the Primary Care & Hope Clinic celebrated breaking ground on construction of a new, $6.6 million Smyrna location.  Funding for the new construction has come from local businesses, private donors and foundations, local healthcare organizations, and a generous contribution from the Christy-Houston Foundation.

President Biden Releases FY 22 Budget 

President Biden released his administration’s FY 22 budget on Friday, May 28. The budget included $3.9 billion in mandatory funding for community health centers, a reduction of $94.7 million. The budget also included an increase in discretionary funding for health centers, bringing the FY 22 appropriation to $1.73 million.

Technology-Enabled Learning Program

HRSA’s Office of Rural Health Policy announced a competitive funding opportunity, the Technology-Enabled Learning Program (TTELP) for rural primary care providers to connect with specialists at academic medical centers.

The application deadline is June 25, 2021. 

Extended Deadline: National Health Service Corps

The deadline for health centers to apply to be eligible to recruit providers through the National Health Service Corps and Nurse Corps was extended through July 1, 2021.

The American Rescue Plan Act provided an additional $800 million over two years for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). The funding will enable the Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) to offer National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program providers to health centers whose Health Professional Shortage Area scores are lower than would typically qualify.

Register to be a National Health Service Corps site by July 1, 2021.
