Tacoma Parks Foundation

NEWSLETTER | OCTOBER 2024

TPF is Evolving

Dear Friends,

I hope you received our first newsletter in September, introducing myself and the TPF team and sharing a bit about where TPF has been over the last few years. If you missed that edition, please read the full newsletter here.

The change in season brings many wonderful things to enjoy in the parks system: watching the leaves change colors, new emerging views once the leaves fall, and tons of events and programs designed to activate and engage our entire Tacoma community.

The Tacoma Parks Foundation has spent the last several months reorganizing to streamline and strengthen operations, building stronger internal relationships as a staff and board, and reflecting on the mission, vision, and values that guide us in supporting Metro Parks Tacoma’s programs and parks.

TPF’s mission is to cultivate a community invested in providing parks and recreation access for all and the anchor for our vision of plentiful, equitable access to nature, play, and recreation in Tacoma. Our values drive the mission and vision as they inform how we ground, engage, and evaluate our work.

It’s an exciting time at Metro Parks Tacoma and the Tacoma Parks Foundation. In the past few years, several incredible community partnerships have been formed to support children’s social and emotional growth, help families with the childcare crisis, provide more robust programming for seniors, and reimagine adult and youth sports programs to include the expansion of adaptive sports to be more inclusive and accessible. Soon, Peck Field will undergo a complete renovation to enhance its functionality for multiple uses and create greater accessibility for schools and our community.

We are honored to support MPT’s phenomenal work. I sincerely hope you will see yourself as a part of that work too. Community support is crucial to what we do, and I look forward to sharing more about both Metro Parks’ and the Foundations’ strategic priorities as we lean into the challenges and opportunities in our Tacoma community.

Yours in partnership,

Beth Boggs

Funding Priorities

MPT has developed strong partnerships with organizations that serve Tacoma’s youth and launched several collaborative community programs. As a result, TPF became the fiscal agent for three incredible new programs: Beyond the Bell, Club Beyond, and Summer Teen Late Nights. We will share much more about these programs in the coming months. In addition, TPF continues to support the Jack C. Wilson Active Kids Fund, the Memorial Bench Program, and other projects for Metro Parks.

TPF’s strategic funding priorities for 2024-2028 are Whole Child/Whole Community, Conservation and Preservation, Community Spaces, Inclusive Workforce, and Park Pride. To read more about these priorities, please click this link.
