Reminder: Texas Solar Eclipse Hours of Service Waiver

Reminder: The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has issued a 5-day emergency declaration/waiver due to the historic solar eclipse.

This measure, pursuant to 49 CFR Part 390.23 and Chapter 644 of the Texas Transportation Code, aims to mitigate anticipated heavy traffic by offering relief from certain Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, particularly addressing maximum driving time for commercial motor vehicles outlined in 49 CFR Part 395.3.

This waiver includes commercial motor vehicles providing power grid repairs and the delivery of essential supplies like groceries, fuel, and propane.

Effective from 12:01 a.m. on April 6, 2024, the waiver will be in force for the duration of the emergency or five days, ending at 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2024, whichever is shorter.

Texas Leads Nation in Propane Production

Below is a breakdown of how much propane each state produces (from both oil and natural gas) and its share of total U.S. production.

The below eight states produce 90% of all U.S. propane. 21 states have no production.

Oklahoma – 9.30%
West Virginia – 8.38%
Colorado – 7.04%
North Dakota – 6.65%
Louisiana – 5.46%
New Mexico – 4.49%
Pennsylvania – 2.94%

Texas produces 4,029,324,000 gallons.

The LPG Charity anticipates ALL lanes to be filled like last year, so please don’t wait if you want to register a team.

The fund is a national charity based in Texas benefiting the propane industry. The LPG Charity Fund's principal objective is to assist members of the LPG and Gas Processing industry during a time of catastrophic medical expenses and/or financial need.
