Gas Furnace Regulation Reversal: U.S. Senator from Texas' Resolution Gains Momentum

Last week, a range of industry groups applauded a resolution authored and passed through the Senate by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, as it advanced to the House of Representatives. The resolution disapproves of and reverses a rule by the Biden administration’s Department of Energy on gas furnace efficiency standards, which would effectively ban non-condensing gas furnace models. After the vote, Sen. Cruz said, “I urge the House to take up this Resolution expeditiously and pass it."

Industry groups have expressed their support for this effort, for example:

  • National Propane Gas Association (NPGA): NPGA commends Senator Cruz and the U.S. Senate for passing S.J. Res. 58. They believe this common-sense action will protect American families by preserving consumer choice and availability. NPGA opposes the DOE’s rule on Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Furnaces, which could limit access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy sources.
  • National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB): NFIB highlights the burden of government regulations on small business owners. The DOE’s furnace regulation is one of many costly rules. NFIB supports Senator Cruz’s efforts to repeal this rule and provide relief to small businesses.
  • Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC National): PHCC applauds Senator Cruz’s extraordinary efforts in questioning the DOE’s actions. Their legislation aims to invoke the Congressional Review Act to address the elimination of non-condensing gas furnaces.

TPGA will keep members informed about the progress of the federal legislation to protect gas furnaces. The outcome now depends on Congress. This week, while we are in Washington, we look forward to personally thanking Senator Ted Cruz for his efforts.

ADVERTISE

CETP to PEP Recognized Instructor Training This June in Dallas

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is introducing the Propane Education Program (PEP) to replace the existing Certified Employee Training Program (CETP). Although CETP is not used for certification in Texas, it can satisfy Railroad Commission requirements for *continuing education. Additionally, some of you may use it in other states or for supplemental training.

What is PEP?

- Function-based and modular: Focuses on specific job skills for improved safety performance.

- Customizable: Learning paths can be tailored to your company's unique needs.

- Builds on CETP knowledge: PEP retains key information from CETP but delivers it in a more manageable format.

Train-the-Trainer Program for PEP Instructors

Instructors must become PEP-recognized to use PEP materials and

*award Continuing Education Units (CEUs). PERC is offering in-person training

Convention Highlight: Texas Two-Step Dinner, Dance & Casino Party

TPGA is preparing for the 2024 Crossroads Propane Expo & Conference in DFW and wants to highlight one of the signature, cannot-miss events.

Following the President's Happy Hour from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, TPGA will kick off its Texas Two Step Dinner from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by the Country Dance World Championship, with Bryce Green guiding folks in Two-Step and Line Dancing.

Unleash the thrill of Vegas during the 2024 Crossroads Expo with other individuals in the industry. The Casino Party, sponsored by All Propane Parts & Equipment, starts at 7:30 PM. Try your luck at blackjack, craps, roulette, or Texas Hold’em.

As guests arrive, they will be given “funny money,” and at the end of the night, we will give away some amazing prizes as well as hold our live booze wagon auction.

Would you like to donate a bottle of booze for our booze wagon auction? Please email tpgascholarship@txpropane.com with what you will be bringing. If everyone brings just one bottle, think about how much we can raise and how big the wagon one person will bring home.

Register by the end of this month. Convention registration prices go up on July 1st.
