Secondly, we remind our members that there is on-demand, self-paced, FREE CSR training online through PERC.

Our third story covers a significant outcome of an ongoing regulatory battle on unvented heaters.

Our fourth story highlights the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA)’s call to action for extending the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit, which is set to expire at the end of the year. Learn how your support can make a difference, and get details on an upcoming webinar on how to claim the 2024 credits.

Gas Leak & Odor Response Industry Resources

Available for the Heating Season

With the heating season upon us, TPGA thought we'd share these Gas Leak and Odor Resources from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC).

Gas leaks and propane odors are serious safety concerns, and propane professionals must follow the correct procedures to ensure their own and others' safety.

PERC has developed various resources to help propane companies create effective safety protocols and ensure their team is equipped to handle gas leak emergencies safely and effectively.

  • Gas Leak and Odor Response Technical Guide: This guide outlines essential steps, including properly using combustible gas indicators (CGIs) to assess leaks and ensure safe entry into leak areas. It also provides practical advice for situations where a CGI may not be available, emphasizing the importance of proper training and personal protective equipment.

Online OnDemand Self-Paced CSR Training

With the heating season just around the corner, PERC’s online training center offers entry-level modules for Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), including safety training on handling various propane customer safety concerns.

These modules cover topics such as Handling Safety-Related Phone Calls and Office Personnel: Safety Basics Introduction.

ANSI Panel Upholds NPGA Appeal

on Unvented Heaters

In October, an ANSI appeals panel made a highly anticipated decision. The panel sided with the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) to overturn the publication of addendum “j” to ASHRAE standard 62.2.

If published, addendum “j” would have banned the installation of unvented heaters in 62.2-compliant residential buildings. This decision is a major victory for NPGA and its members, who can continue to offer these popular, safe, and efficient supplemental room heaters to their customers without fear of a pending prohibition.

Special thanks go to all industry allies who worked hard to achieve this important judgment, especially Dave Delaquila, who represented NPGA and led the coalition.

Tell Congress to Extend the

Alternative Fuel Tax Credit

As 2024 draws to a close, NPGA urges Congress to act swiftly by passing a two-year extension of the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit (AFTC) during the upcoming lame-duck session. Set to expire on December 31, 2024, the AFTC is vital in encouraging businesses and individuals to transition to alternative fuel vehicles, such as autogas.

In collaboration with a dedicated coalition, NPGA has drafted a letter of support for the AFTC, and we invite you and your business to add your name. Your signature will demonstrate to Congress how essential this credit is for your operations, customers, and the broader propane industry.
