The Texas Propane Gas Association (TPGA) saw record attendance at its Committee, Board, & Annual Business Meeting in Fredericksburg on October 1-2, 2024.

Annual Business Meeting

During the event, we swore in new board members and presented our Annual Business Meeting, where we highlighted TPGA’s successes in navigating local and state regulatory challenges and reported on our good financial standing. TPGA’s legal counsel, Leonard Smith, briefed the board and guests on the latest developments in our ongoing lawsuit with the City of Houston.

Technical & Standards Update

Joe Green, Co-Chair of the Technical & Standards (T&S) Committee from Greens Blue Flame Gas, provided a detailed update on the committee’s review of changes in the 2020 and 2024 editions of NFPA 58. The association plans to adopt the 2024 edition after the legislative session concludes in June, with the most significant update being the controversial new Chapter 16 on food trucks.

RRC Update

April Richardson from the Railroad Commission’s Oversight & Safety Division, alongside Karley Bisbano, the newly appointed Director of Alternative Fuel Safety (AFS), shared progress on staffing and the long-awaited AFIOS portal. This portal, expected to launch by late 2025, pending IT approval and additional legislative funding, will streamline access to inspection reports and license, certification, and truck renewal processes.

Upcoming Events Update

Mark Garrison, NPGA Director at Allstar Fuel, previewed the upcoming NPGA Meetings in San Antonio, set for October 7-9, 2024, and extended an invitation to all Texas NPGA members to attend.

Finally, updates were provided on National Propane Day, scheduled for October 7, 2024, and the 2025 Crossroads Propane Expo & Conference, which will take place from August 7-9 at Moody Gardens Resort in Galveston, TX. The event will include our signature expo, fishing and golf tournaments, regulatory training sessions, and a variety of workshops

Hurricane Helene caused severe devastation in the Southeast, impacting coastal areas and regions hundreds of miles inland, significantly affecting propane country. Many National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) members and their customers are facing tremendous losses. The propane community is committed to supporting long-term recovery efforts in the Southeast.

Operation BBQ Relief is deploying teams to the Southeast to provide propane-fueled BBQ to disaster-affected communities, offering solace to residents, first responders, and relief workers.

Donations can be made via a provided link or QR code. NPGA, along with Ferrellgas/Blue Rhino and the Young Professionals Council, supports Operation BBQ Relief’s efforts.

State and regional associations are leading the propane industry’s response, securing tanks, and ensuring the safety of homes and businesses in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Propane generators are providing electricity, and propane grills are being used for cooking. Propane marketers are supplying fuel for essential needs, collaborating with emergency services, and working with Operation BBQ Relief to deliver meals. The propane community’s contributions are making a significant difference during this crucial time.
