Congressional Committee Advances Prove It Act Aimed at Protecting Small Businesses

Last week, the U.S. House Committee on Small Business advanced the Prove It Act (HR7198), which aims to protect small businesses from overregulation. The bill passed along party lines with a 13-11 vote.



Committee Chairman Roger Williams, R-Texas, emphasized the need for such measures to combat burdensome regulations, stating that federal agencies must consider the interests of small businesses by assessing and limiting the costs of their rules.

The Prove It Act of 2024 requires federal agencies to analyze the impact of their regulations on small businesses. Key provisions include:

• Allowing small businesses to raise concerns about regulatory costs
• Enabling reviews of agency actions to ensure compliance
• Exempting small businesses from regulations if agencies fail to comply with review processes
• Ensuring easy access to guidance documents and communication with regulators

This bill could protect small businesses from government overregulation. TPGA will keep members informed of any advancements in this federal legislation.
