Principal's Message

thank-you-teachers-1_original image

Dear Taylor Prairie Families:

Wow, this year flew by! Our students have grown so much, and we will hold memories of them close as kindergarteners head to Cottage Grove School next year. We have several activities planned to help ease the transition including:

  • Cottage Grove Staff visiting Taylor Prairie on two separate occasions
  • Kindergarten learners visiting Cottage Grove School on May 17th
  • A story about Cottage Grove School
  • Open House in the fall

I want to take this opportunity to recognize our staff as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week May 8th-12th! Please join me in thanking our teachers! We have a committed and talented team, and I am proud to work beside them.

When we close out each school year, staff take time to reflect upon areas that we can improve and successes we can celebrate. If you have feedback for us, please reach out anytime. TP is supported by an incredible community of families, and I want to thank you for your partnership this year!

Warmest Regards,

Emily Foster

School Nutrition - Harvest of the Month

Our Harvest of the Month is a bit different for May. It is a product that we see on our lunch menus often, and are so excited to get it from a local farm this month! Find out what it is by checking out the May F2S newsletter under the Farm to School Program tab here: MG School Nutrition Page. We love to support our local community and to make sure our students have fresh, nutritious food! Take a look at your school's lunch menu to see what new and local we are featuring. This newsletter features lots of great information including: nutrition education, recipe ideas, and pictures from recent F2S events. Visit the F2S Website for even more resources.

Parent Equity Council Open House

The Monona Grove School District recognizes that racism, bias and discrimination are present in our culture and schools and is committed to disrupting societal and historical inequities and eliminating disparities in our communities.  It is the District's responsibility to enact policy changes that shape a more equitable environment, the integrity of these changes depends on the affirmative and direct involvement of those with insight into and expertise around these issues.

The MGSD Parent Equity Council consists of caregivers that have students of color in the district and the council has served as an advisory group to district leadership since the Fall of 2018. Since then, the group has met monthly with the goal of improving the experience of students and families of color in the district.

We would like to invite you to our upcoming meeting in May to learn more about the council’s work and its members, create community, and help plan for the future. We currently have 8 active members that meet with district leadership on a regular basis and are looking to expand that representation and learn more about our students’ and families' experience in the district. This invitation is extended to any caregiver who has a student of color in the district.
