It's Time for a Break
As we hop into Spring Break, we encourage all of our students and families to take this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved pause. A restful break can make a big difference — helping students return refreshed, focused, and ready to make the most of the final stretch of the school year.
Happy Spring Break!
We can’t wait to see everyone back and blooming!

All TPSS schools will be closed Friday, April 18 through Friday, April 25 for Spring Break. Classes will resume on Monday, April 28.

Can Spring Break help promote good school attendance?
When students return from break feeling rested and refreshed, they’re more likely to:
- Feel energized to attend school regularly
- Stay focused and engaged in class
- Finish the year strong, both academically and emotionally
Encouraging healthy rest during Spring Break, as well as a regular school week, can lead to fewer absences, stronger participation, and a more positive mindset — all key ingredients for ending the school year on a high note!

Spring Testing for Students
Tangischools will continue testing after Spring Break. Tests like LEAP, ACT, DIBELS, and End-of-Course assessments help measure student progress and help to ensure that each child is on track for success.
Testing will take place on designated dates, so please check with your child’s school for specific schedules. To help your child do their best, ensure they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time each day.
Thank you for your support in making this a smooth and successful testing season! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s school.

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students
Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law took effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.
| | |
If you have a child in grades kindergarten - 3, be on the lookout for a report on your child's DIBLES Assessment scores for the end of the school year to be sent home. The DIBELS assessment measures the reading fluency of each student individually, which helps parents and educators identify where the child needs help the most. By detecting the risks and monitoring development, we can work together with the child to ensure that he or she receives proper interventions to increase reading proficiency. If you do not receive this report, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Third grade students who are reading "well below level" as tested by the end-of-the-year DIBELS assessment in April will face retainment and must repeat third grade the following school year if unable to increase their DIBELS scores by June.
Reach out to your child's teacher for help and support.

It's a set of assessments used to measure a student's progress in essential literacy skills, like phonemic awareness and phonics, and is used in schools to track student learning and provide interventions when needed. | | | | |

Courageous and Confident
Courage and confidence are key life skills that help children try new things, speak up for what’s right, and believe in themselves, even when things feel challenging.
As a family, here are a few ways you can support your child in building these traits:
-
Celebrate Effort Over Perfection – Encourage your child to take risks and try, even if they don’t succeed the first time.
-
Model Confidence – Talk about times you felt nervous but pushed through.
-
Name Courageous Acts – Whether it’s asking a question in class or standing up for a friend, point out brave behavior.
-
Practice Positive Self-Talk – Help your child replace “I can’t” with “I’m still learning.”
Being courageous doesn’t mean being fearless, it means trying even when you're unsure.
Family Activity
Objective:
Help your child recognize and practice small, brave actions in everyday life, and build confidence through reflection and celebration.
Instructions:
- Read through the challenges below.
- During Spring Break, encourage your child (and even the whole family) to try completing as many challenges as possible.
- At the end of Spring Break, talk together about how it felt to be courageous and confident.

Louisiana Harvest of the Month
Strawberries are a member of the Rosaceae family, also known as the rose family, which includes the ornamental rose, along with apples, almonds, blackberries, cherries, pears, and raspberries.
Strawberries are not considered to be an actual berry because the seeds grow on the outside of the fruit. In fact, strawberries are the only fruit that have their seeds on the outside of their skin. The strawberry is Louisiana’s state fruit and is one of the most popular fruits cultivated worldwide.
| | | | |
Strawberries play a big role in the livelihood of our parish. From farms, to fields, to local fruit stands and beyond, our community helps to bring this delicious berry to tables near and far.
The featured video from the Louisiana Harvest of the Month series showcases a local berry farm. Watch to learn more!
