Let the Good Times Roll!
Celebrating successes, both big and small, is an important part of a child’s learning journey. In TPSS, we believe that recognizing achievements helps build confidence, motivation, and a love for learning.
Recognizing a child’s hard work helps them believe in themselves and grow into confident individuals. When students know their efforts matter, they’re more motivated to keep pushing toward their goals. By celebrating progress, not just the final result, they learn that dedication and perseverance lead to success.
To show our students just how much their hard work and success mean to us, we went all out for our Annual TPSS Krewe of Champions Parade, rolling through downtown Amite in grand style! This year’s parade was our biggest yet, with even more school participation and larger crowds cheering us on, a true testament to how special and meaningful this event has become!
The tradition of the Krewe of Champions parade brings our entire district together in a fun and festive way. Seeing our students’ bright smiles, their excitement as they interact with one another, and the pride they feel while waving to the crowd is absolutely priceless. It’s a true celebration of their achievements and a joyous event for everyone involved!
Recognizing achievements fosters a sense of belonging, where students, teachers, and families celebrate each other’s growth.
Tangipahoa Parish School System strives to continue to carry out the recognition of daily successes of our students and staff this school year by highlighting individual and group accomplishments through verbal praise, classroom certificates, and social media shout-outs. Help us at home by encouraging your child to focus on progress rather than perfection. Help them recognize their improvements and set new challenges.
Success comes in many forms, whether it’s mastering a new skill, improving a grade, showing kindness, or demonstrating perseverance. By celebrating these moments, we encourage students to keep striving for their best. #AcceptTheChallenge

Updated Bell Schedule
At our board meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the following plan was approved to make-up the day from our recent snow event.
As a reminder, we missed four days that week as Monday was a holiday. We had two emergency days built into the second semester, and we changed the March 17, 2025, PD day to a school day for students. That leaves us with one day to recover which we will do using the schedule below:
- We will begin Wednesday, February 12, 2025, adding 10 minutes to the school day through Friday, April 11, 2025.
- Schools will begin the day 5 minutes earlier than their current start time and end five minutes later than their current end time.
- We will revert back to our normal schedule Monday, April 14, 2025.
See UPDATED Bell Time Schedule
We will revert back to our regular schedule Monday, April 14, 2025.

Be There. Physically and Mentally.
To truly be present in class means more than just physically showing up. It's about being fully engaged in the learning process.
Pay close attention to the teacher and your classmates. Process what’s being said, and respond thoughtfully. By asking questions, contributing to discussions, and engaging with activities, you will get so much more out of your lessons.
Make an effort to focus on the learning, and tune out distractions.

A NOTE ABOUT HEALTH-RELATED ABSENCES
Getting sick happens, and it’s okay to miss school when your child needs to rest and recover. Their health comes first! Just let us know, and we’ll help them catch up. Remember to send in an excuse with your child upon their return to school.

Thank you for helping keep our school community healthy!

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students
Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law took effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.
| |
|
If you have a child in grades kindergarten - 3, be on the lookout for a report on your child's DIBLES Assessment scores for the middle of the school year to be sent home. The DIBELS assessment measures the reading fluency of each student individually, which helps parents and educators identify where the child needs help the most. By detecting the risks and monitoring development, we can work together with the child to ensure that he or she is on track to reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade. If you do not receive this report, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Third grade students who are reading "well below level" as tested by the end-of-the-year DIBELS assessment in April will face retainment and must repeat third grade the following school year if unable to increase their DIBELS scores by June.
Now is the time to intervene with your child's reading abilities.
Reach out to your child's teacher for help and support.

Game Night
Games like Scrabble, Boggle, and many other board games require reading skills. Choose games for a Family Game night which are fun and engaging, that also require children to read cards, spell words, or use verbal language to interact and solve problems.

Fraction Fun with King Cake
Cut a King Cake into slices by color and use it to explain fractions. Count how many total slices make up the whole cake. This is the denominator of the fraction (the number below the line). Have your child figure out what fraction of the cake was eaten, or decide which fraction of the cake has green slices? That would be the numerator of the fraction (the number above the line). What fraction represents how many purple slices there are? If 3 out of the 9 slices of cake are yellow, is that the same as 1/3 of the cake? (Yes! Practice reducing those fractions!)
