#AttendanceMatters

Attend Today,

Achieve Tomorrow

September is Attendance Awareness month all over the country.

Why? Studies about school attendance show that “showing up” makes a difference:

  • Positive school attendance supports students’ academic and social growth.

  • Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves.

  • Learning good work habits early will support their success in life.

TPSS values our parent and community partnerships! Positive school attendance is a joint effort of home and school.  Together, we make a difference for our students.

We ask that all families join us in helping students form the good attendance habits of being present each day and on time, which will help them succeed in school and beyond.

Have a Special Transportation Request?

Special Transportation Requests will be handled on a first come, first served basis. Special Requests will not be approved for multiple morning or afternoon addresses and will not be approved on a week-to-week or day-to-day basis, nor for transportation to or from businesses and/or jobs. In addition, Special Transportation Requests will only be granted if seating is available, with priority given to students assigned to the particular bus.

A NOTE ABOUT DISCIPLINE

The school bus is an extension of the school building; therefore, all school bus behavior incidents shall be reported to the principal within one (1) school day. All incidents will be addressed according to the Tangipahoa Parish Student Code of Conduct Handbook. Students who choose not to follow the guidelines will be put off the school bus.

💧Water bottles are welcome!

Students are encouraged to bring a bottle of fresh water to school each day. Our campus water fountains have been fitted with bottle fillers. Some of our schools have requested that students bring clear water bottles only. Please check with your school for clarification if needed. Label your water bottle with your name, so that it can be returned to you if found on campus.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

There is Help. There is Hope.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month.

All month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.

Studies indicate that helping someone at risk create a network of resources and individuals for support and safety can help them take positive action and reduce feelings of hopelessness.

Social Emotional Well-Being Student Survey

Our students in grades 3-12 are invited to complete an online survey as a way to offer insight and feedback to their school. The feedback provided will be used to make decisions during the planning process of addressing the needs of our children. The survey will become available during the week of October 3. A link to the survey will be provided on our district website once the window opens.

SAFETY AS A TOP PRIORITY

TPSS is committed to excellence!

Back To School Plan 2022-2023

ID Badges

One way to ensure that the adults and minors on our campuses are in their correct places is to make sure that every person is visibly wearing an official TPSS ID Badge.

  • TPSS is implementing district wide ID badges for students and employees. This will immediately improve security on campuses because the badge verifies an individual belongs on campus, and those without a badge can be easily identified.
  • Student badges will include their grade level, so adults can easily identify where that student should be on campus.
  • Badges will include bar codes and QR codes that can be used for scanning into programs. For example: Badges will be used to scan for meals in the school cafeterias.

Temporary badges will be issued to 5th - 12th grade students for the first days of school. Permanent ID badges will be issued to all staff and students after school pictures have been taken.
School IDs must be worn everyday.

FAMILY ENGAGMENT

We Love Our Grandparents!

A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.

We want to extend a heartfelt 'thank you' to our beautiful grandparents. We appreciate the special love and attention you provide to our students. Happy Grandparents Day! #OneTeam.OnePurpose.
