It's Suddenly Spring Time in Tangischools!

We are already halfway through our second semester of school! This week marks the beginning of our 4th (and final) 9 Week grading period, testing season is in full swing, and high school graduations are just around the corner.

As the spring semester unfolds, it's important for students to stay focused and finish the school year strong! With warmer weather and exciting events on the horizon, distractions can be tempting—but staying on top of assignments, maintaining good study habits, and setting goals will help ensure success. Parents can support students by encouraging time management, providing a structured routine, and celebrating progress along the way. Let’s make the most of the rest of the school year by staying motivated, engaged, and committed to learning! #FinishStrong #AcceptTheChallenge #SpringSuccess

Be Present. Everyday.

A NOTE ABOUT HEALTH-RELATED ABSENCES

Getting sick happens, and it’s okay to miss school when your child needs to rest and recover. Their health comes first! Just let us know, and we’ll help them catch up. Remember to send in an excuse with your child upon their return to school.

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students

Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law took effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.

3rd Grade Literacy Proficiency

If you have a child in grades kindergarten - 3, be on the lookout for a report on your child's DIBLES Assessment scores for the middle of the school year to be sent home. The DIBELS assessment measures the reading fluency of each student individually, which helps parents and educators identify where the child needs help the most. By detecting the risks and monitoring development, we can work together with the child to ensure that he or she is on track to reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade. If you do not receive this report, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Third grade students who are reading "well below level" as tested by the end-of-the-year DIBELS assessment in April will face retainment and must repeat third grade the following school year if unable to increase their DIBELS scores by June.

Now is the time to intervene with your child's reading abilities.

Reach out to your child's teacher for help and support.

TESTING & GRADED ASSIGNMENTS

Spring Testing Prep: Helping Students Get Ready to Succeed

The imminent arrival of spring also means that state testing for our students is quickly approaching. While we understand that these assessments can bring stress and anxiety for both students and parents, testing is key in guiding the development of vital instructional strategies and providing an in-depth evaluation of each student’s progress. We’re here to help parents and students with the resources and tips they need to take the stress out of tests so they can be confident in doing their best on the test!

Changes to the Grading Scale

You may have noticed that Louisiana has adopted a unified grading scale, as a way to show consistency across all districts. The passing of House Bill No. 424 provides for a uniform ten-point grading scale relative to grades assigned in all Louisiana public schools.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Our District well-being team was excited to celebrate our SEL champions all over the parish who are going above and beyond for their students every day!

Be A Bright Spot

Our schools had a great time celebrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and the important role it plays in student success! Through engaging activities, discussions, and hands-on experiences, students are building essential life skills such as self-awareness, teamwork, problem-solving, and empathy. SEL helps create a positive school environment where students feel supported, valued, and ready to learn. By fostering strong relationships and emotional well-being, we’re preparing students for success both in and out of the classroom. Thank you to our educators and families for supporting this important part of our students’ growth! #SEL #StrongerTogether #GrowingHeartsAndMinds

Schools around the district celebrated SEL Day by wearing yellow shirts and participating in a variety of activities, all promoting kindness, inclusion, and acceptance.

The Truth About Vaping

Families want what’s best for their kids, and that includes helping them make healthy choices. Vaping has become more common among teens, and with so much information out there, it can be tough to know what’s true. While some believe vaping is harmless, the reality is that it can have serious effects on young people’s health.

There are resources out there to help.
