A Commitment to Care: Our Focus on Student Mental Health
As we begin the month of September, we want to take this opportunity to acknowledge that September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. It's a time to raise awareness and promote resources to support mental health and well-being.
The Tangipahoa Parish School System is deeply committed to the social and emotional well-being of our students. We recognize that mental health is a crucial component of a child's overall success, both in and out of the classroom. Our school system has counselors and social-emotional learning coaches available, offering a range of resources and support services to ensure that every student has access to the help they may need.
We encourage you to have open and honest conversations with your children about their mental health. We are here to support you and your family. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor or school administration.

School Attendance
In an effort to ensure students are in class to receive valuable learning, some of our attendance procedures have been updated in alliance with state guidelines. Notifications of student absences will be sent to families using the parent/guardian email address on file and a hard copy sent home with students.
Read our Letter to Families
Did you know? A student is considered truant after 5 unexcused absences and is placed on a truancy list. They stay on the list for a semester unless they submit excuses.

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for all students. The rise in the use of vaping devices and related products poses a serious health risk and creates disruptions to the educational setting. This policy is designed to deter the use, possession, and distribution of tobacco, vaping, and marijuana products, and to enforce strict disciplinary measures that promote student well-being, accountability, and compliance with Louisiana law.

Gun Safety Program for K-4th Grade Students - Coming to a School Near You!
We would like to inform you about a gun safety program that will be implemented in grades K-4, starting in September. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program is a gun accident prevention program that, for over 30 years, has helped keep kids safe. The program was developed by a task force comprising educators, school administrators, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, clinical psychologists, law enforcement officials, and National Rifle Association firearm safety experts. It began in 1988 with one mission: teach children four simple, easy-to-remember steps so they know what to do if they ever come across a gun. Eddie and his friends are focused on telling children that if they see a gun, they need to Stop! Don't touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up.
Tangipahoa Parish School System is committed to keeping our students safe, and this gun safety program is one way we can proactively protect students. The program will be delivered by Lt. Don Alexander of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. The program includes this video and a discussion of gun safety procedures. If you would like more information on the program, please visit the Eddie Eagle and the Wing Team website. There are additional resources for families to continue gun safety education with children.
If you know something, say something.
