Be Respectful. Be Compassionate. Be Great.

"Accept the Challenge 2024-2025"

Sailing into the Last Week of School

As we close the chapter on another incredible school year, the TPSS would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our families for your continued support, partnership, and trust.

This year has been filled with learning, growth, and shared success—and none of it would have been possible without the encouragement and involvement of our parents, guardians, and caregivers. Whether you helped with homework, supported school events, or simply made sure your child showed up ready to learn each day, you played a vital role in helping us create a positive and successful year for our students.

As summer begins, we hope your family enjoys a season of rest, laughter, and meaningful moments together. Let this be a time to recharge, reflect, and reconnect.

From all of us at TPSS, thank you for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year in the fall!

Be Respectful. Be Compassionate. Be Great.

The Last Day is a Half Day

The last day of school for students, Friday 5/23, will be a half day. Please follow the dismissal schedule of your child's school.

LITERACY

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students

Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law took effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.

If you have a child in grades kindergarten - 3, be on the lookout for a report on your child's DIBLES Assessment scores for the end of the school year to be sent home. The DIBELS assessment measures the reading fluency of each student individually, which helps parents and educators identify where the child needs help the most. By detecting the risks and monitoring development, we can work together with the child to ensure that he or she receives proper interventions to increase reading proficiency. If you do not receive this report, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Third grade students who are reading "well below level" as tested by the end-of-the-year DIBELS assessment in April will face retainment and must repeat third grade the following school year if unable to increase their DIBELS scores by June.

Reach out to your child's teacher for help and support.

DIBELS stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills. It's a set of assessments used to measure a student's progress in essential literacy skills, like phonemic awareness and phonics, and is used in schools to track student learning and provide interventions when needed.

GRADED ASSIGNMENTS

Changes to the Grading Scale

You may have noticed that Louisiana has adopted a unified grading scale, as a way to show consistency across all districts. The passing of House Bill No. 424 provides for a uniform ten-point grading scale relative to grades assigned in all Louisiana public schools.

Social Emotional Learning

Closing A Chapter: Healthy Ways to End the School Year

As the school year comes to a close, it's a natural time for reflection, celebration, and sometimes even mixed emotions. Whether it was a year of challenges, growth, big wins, or quiet changes, how we wrap up the year emotionally can impact how we feel heading into the summer—and even the next school year.

Here are some healthy, SEL-based ways for students and families to bring closure to the year in a positive and meaningful way:

1. Celebrate Progress, Not Just Perfection

Encourage students to recognize how far they’ve come, not just what’s on a report card.

  • Ask: What are you proud of this year?
  • Celebrate small wins: improved friendships, better time management, showing up even when it was hard.

2. Reflect with Gratitude

Taking a moment to express gratitude can help bring emotional closure.

  • Students can write thank-you notes to teachers, friends, or staff.
  • As a family, talk about something or someone that made this year special.

3. Talk About the Tough Stuff

It’s okay to feel sad, nervous, or even disappointed about the year ending.

  • Validate these feelings: “It’s normal to feel this way.”
  • Remind students that transitions can be hard but also bring new opportunities.

4. Say Meaningful Goodbyes

Goodbyes help us emotionally move forward.

  • Encourage students to say goodbye to classmates, teachers, or even the building if they’re moving schools.
  • Capture memories in a creative way — like a photo collage or memory jar.

5. Rest and Recharge

Summer is a time to reset.

  • Build in downtime, creative play, and outdoor fun.
  • Remind students (and adults!) that rest is productive and necessary for emotional well-being.

Final Thought for Families

Ending the school year with intention helps children build emotional resilience and self-awareness—two essential social-emotional skills. Take time to reflect as a family, celebrate the journey, and welcome the next chapter with hope and confidence.

Here’s to a summer of growth, joy, and well-deserved rest!

TECHNOLOGY

Clean Up your Digital Closet

As the school year ends, take time to organize your google drive, archive emails, and purge old information. Organize the things you want to hold on to, and delete what you no longer need.

A fresh start online is just as important as a fresh start in school.

A NOTE FOR OUR GRADUATED SENIORS

Your time in TPSS has come to a close, which means your Tangischools Google Account will soon deactivate.

Make sure to copy your files in Google Drive to a personal Google account if you would like to keep them. If you have been using your tangi email to correspond with colleges or career opportunities make sure to update your email to your personal email account.
