Friday, May 24 is a Half-Day of School for Students
This school year has been a journey filled with learning, growth, and countless memorable moments. Remember, the end of this school year is not just about finishing assignments or taking exams. It's about celebrating your dedication, resilience, and the friendships that have blossomed along the way. Take pride in how far you've come and the knowledge and experiences you've gained.
As you step into the summer break, take the time to relax, recharge, and enjoy new adventures. Keep the curiosity and enthusiasm for learning alive. Read a good book, explore a new hobby, or simply spend quality time with family and friends.
To our graduating students, congratulations! You are about to embark on an exciting new chapter. Your future is bright, and we can't wait to see all the incredible things you will accomplish.
To everyone returning next year, we look forward to welcoming you back with new opportunities and experiences. Have a wonderful summer, stay safe, and come back ready for another fantastic year.
Enjoy your summer vacation!

SHINING BRIGHT:
THE IMPORTANCE OF SUMMER READING
Summer break is here, and with it comes more free time for students. While it's tempting to spend these months glued to screens, it's essential to encourage meaningful and productive activities. One of the best alternatives? Reading!
How Summer Reading Helps Kids:
-
Retain Knowledge: Reading over the summer helps students retain the knowledge they gained during the school year. It prevents the "summer slide" where students can lose up to three months of academic progress.
-
Polish Skills: By continuing to read, students polish their reading, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It's a great way to stay mentally sharp and prepared for the next school year.
-
Increase Literacy Skills: Reading regularly improves vocabulary, grammar, and overall literacy skills. It exposes students to new ideas and perspectives, broadening their horizons.
-
Foster Creativity: Engaging with different genres and stories sparks creativity and imagination. It allows students to explore new worlds and ideas from the comfort of a book.
Tips for Parents to Encourage Summer Reading:
-
Start a Family Book Club. Choose a book the whole family can read together and discuss. It's a fun way to bond over literature.
-
Dedicate Bedtime for Reading. Encourage reading before bedtime as part of the nightly routine. It's a calming way to end the day.
-
Set Screen Time Limits. Balance screen time with reading time. Set limits on devices and encourage reading as an alternative.
-
Visit the Library. Take regular trips to the library and let your children choose books that interest them. The library offers a wealth of options for all ages.
-
Lead by Example. Let your kids see you reading for pleasure. Show them that reading is enjoyable and a valuable use of time.
Summer reading isn’t just about keeping up with academics; it's about fostering a lifelong love for learning and discovery. Encourage your child to dive into books this summer, and watch as their minds grow and imaginations soar.

Learning can feel more like playing when we find simple ways to engage with our children. Make everyday tasks fun and interactive by putting the spin of literacy awareness into the activity.
Beginning at a very young age, playing with language, letter sounds, and vocal expression will help to grow our children into proficient readers by the time they are ready to begin formal school. Below is a library of ideas to try out with your child over summer break. Remember, keep it simple. It's more about communication, speaking, listening, and engagement more than anything else. Make eye contact, offer reassurance with a smile, model expression in your voice, ask them questions and give them your attention as they construct a response. Involve them in daily routines by turning tasks into learning games. And READ, READ, READ. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about.

Sidewalk Chalk Letter- Sound Play
Get outside and move this summer. While you are at play, sprinkle some early literacy skills into the activity.
1 - Draw 5-10 circles with a different letter in each circle.
2 - Tell your child you are going to say a sound and you want them to run to the circle that has the letter that matches that sound.
3 - Start with the letters in your child’s name and continue to add more letters. (For example, you might say, “Run to the letter that makes the sound /t/.”)
