TPSS Dresscode
Our dress code will remain the same for this school year. The only small update is that students can now wear a solid black UNDERSHIRT (instead of only white) under their school uniform polo shirt, girls can now wear capri pants, and we have added a Spirit Day on Fridays.
Spirit Days allow for students to wear their school-issued spirt shirts along with school-appropriate blue jeans on Fridays.

The Tale of the "Summer Slide"
Summer is the perfect time for maintaining and strengthening literacy skills in our children. Without the structure of the school year, children can experience the "summer slide," losing some of the reading gains they made during the year. This time of year is ideal for encouraging chldren to read, engage in literacy activities, and make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
Reading during the summer helps children retain and build upon the skills they’ve developed. It keeps their minds active, promotes critical thinking, and enhances their love for learning that can benefit them throughout their lives. Differences in children’s summer learning experiences during their elementary school years can ultimately impact whether they earn a high school diploma and continue to college. By participating in literacy activities during the summer, students can explore new interests, discover new worlds through books, and enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
By getting involved in summer literacy activities, we can collectively ensure that our children continue to grow and thrive even when school is out. This is the best time of year to make a positive impact on their academic futures and set them up for success in the coming school year.
How Summer Reading Helps Kids:
-
Retain Knowledge: Reading over the summer helps students retain the knowledge they gained during the school year. It prevents the "summer slide" where students can lose up to three months of academic progress.
-
Polish Skills: By continuing to read, students polish their reading, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It's a great way to stay mentally sharp and prepared for the next school year.
-
Increase Literacy Skills: Reading regularly improves vocabulary, grammar, and overall literacy skills. It exposes students to new ideas and perspectives, broadening their horizons.
-
Foster Creativity: Engaging with different genres and stories sparks creativity and imagination. It allows students to explore new worlds and ideas from the comfort of a book.
Tips for Parents to Encourage Summer Reading:
-
Start a Family Book Club. Choose a book the whole family can read together and discuss. It's a fun way to bond over literature.
-
Dedicate Bedtime for Reading. Encourage reading before bedtime as part of the nightly routine. It's a calming way to end the day.
-
Set Screen Time Limits. Balance screen time with reading time. Set limits on devices and encourage reading as an alternative.
-
Visit the Library. Take regular trips to the library and let your children choose books that interest them. The library offers a wealth of options for all ages.
-
Lead by Example. Let your kids see you reading for pleasure. Show them that reading is enjoyable and a valuable use of time.
Summer reading isn’t just about keeping up with academics; it's about fostering a lifelong love for learning and discovery. Encourage your child to dive into books this summer, and watch as their minds grow and imaginations soar.
