24 August 2022

Bottom Line Up Front

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), better known as the Taliban, just celebrated their takeover of Kabul last year, but, Islamic State is also preparing for a celebration of their own, namely their massive suicide bombing in Kabul just days later on 26 August 2021. TRAC contends this anniversary could be a precarious for many locations across the globe.

Fast forward to Islamic State Central Command’s overall worldwide plans, with Khurasan (ISK) surprisingly being a key player in Africa (ISWA, ISGS, ISCA and Shabaab Cult.) As Islamic State (IS) rapidly expands into Africa at an alarming Mosul-like pace, IS Central Command is covertly expanding into both the Indian Subcontinent and the Fergana Valley, i.e. Central Asia. It will not be difficult for IS Central to develop new in-routes, cultivate networks, and even strongholds because of the long-held grievances in these areas. A hard-core propaganda campaign could yield fantastic results for the Islamic State. While the world continues to be distracted by the situation in Ukraine; IS Central has strategically made massive moves in Nigeria, the Sahel, Libya and, yes, even Afghanistan.

TRAC has assessed the situation in Afghanistan in our latest Insight.
