Miller Fabrication Solutions’ donation promotes
NCC inventory management, efficiency
Miller Fabrication Solutions, a heavy metal fabrication partner to global equipment manufacturers across construction and forestry, mining, transportation and other industrial equipment industries, is supporting Pittsburgh-based Anselmo Training Innovation Center at New Century Careers in a unique way.

Miller has donated four tool cribs which are industrial-built “vending machines” that organize and store the hundreds of consumable parts used on manufacturing floors like that of the NCC training center.

“The donation is part of Miller’s commitment to strengthen the resources of regional non-profits for post-pandemic success, said Michael McDade, Miller’s purchasing manager. “The services provided by organizations like New Century Careers are a crucial contributor to the development of the workforce of tomorrow. We’re pleased to be able to offer our support.”

Neil Ashbaugh, president and CEO of New Century Careers, was introduced to McDade by colleague Paul Limbacher, account manager at BlackHawk Industrial Supply. “The donation reflects the collaborative spirit of manufacturers to share resources, “Ashbaugh said.

The cribs, estimated at $6,000, will store and inventory a recently acquired supply of carbide and high speed steel cutting tools, such as inserts, drills, end mills, and taps, and screws, collets and holders.

“Contributions like these are invaluable to our non-profit training center that provides NCC’s industry standard training manufacturers have relied on for over two decades,” Ashbaugh added.
NCC featured in TribLive article about
work documentary on WQED
Pittsburgh’s revitalization is featured in the first episode of the three-part PBS series “Future of Work” (10-11 p.m. Wednesday, WQED-TV), which explores changes in the workplace and its potential for long-term impact on workers, employers, educators and communities nationwide.

Executive producer and series creator Denise DiIanni said she was interested in including Pittsburgh for several reasons.

“We wanted our show to have all kinds of diversity, including, importantly, geographic diversity,” she said. “We didn’t want this to be a bi-coastal kind of documentary.”

Machinist and apprentice volunteers needed
Earlier this year, New Century Careers received a generous donation from YG-1 that includes 11,000 tools critical to the NCC training, including carbide inserts, drills, end mills, taps, screws, collets and holders. NCC needs machinist and third and fourth year apprentice volunteers to help unpack, inventory and stock the items so they are readily available for training and Job Shop use. Day, evening or weekend hours can be scheduled. Register here for the hours you can join staff to assist with this project and NCC will be in touch to confirm times. Just a few hours can be a big help!
