I-95 Southbound

Exit 148 (Quantico)
Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single southbound lane closure for Improve 95 project construction south of the interchange between mile markers 147-146.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single southbound lane closure for Improve 95 project construction south of the interchange between mile markers 135-134.

Exit 133 (Route 17)
Monday Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single southbound lane closure in the local lanes for Improve 95 construction.

Exit 130 (Route 3)
Monday Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single southbound lane closure in the local lanes for Improve 95 construction. Drivers should also be alert to shoulder closures near the interchange and along the on- and off-ramps.

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)
Saturday, Feb. 5 Sunday, Feb. 6, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile work zone to remove storm debris from shoulders and median. All southbound travel lanes will remain open. Drivers should be alert to the slow-moving equipment along the right or left shoulders along the travel lanes and ramp areas. Brief delays are possible near the mobile operation. The major post-storm debris removal operation will take several weeks to complete. Read the release here.

I-95 Northbound

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 133 (Route 17)
Monday Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure for Improve 95 construction.

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 152 (Joplin Road) in Prince William County
Monday Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile work zone to remove storm debris from shoulders and median. All northbound travel lanes will remain open. Drivers should be alert to the slow-moving equipment along the right or left shoulders near the travel lanes and ramp areas. Brief delays are possible near the mobile operation. Read the release here.

Stafford County

Route 3 Business Eastbound
Monday, 7 a.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 eastbound from Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road for bridge work. Crews are working under the structure over the CSX railroad.

Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)
Monday – Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Right turn lane will be closed on Centreport Parkway at Route 1 for Improve 95 construction.

City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County

Chatham Bridge
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 Business between River Road and the city limits for final construction activities as part of the Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project. The shared-use path on the Chatham Bridge will also close each day during the work zone. Read the release here.
 
Spotsylvania County

Route 17 (Mills Drive)
Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Bridge repairs. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 near Benchmark Road to allow crews to safely complete work underneath the bridge. A flagging crew will direct traffic through the work zone. Brief delays are possible.
 
Caroline County

Route 207 near Dry Bridge Road
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Guardrail Repair. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 207 near Dry Bridge Road.

Gloucester County

Route 17
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile operation to install rumble strips at various locations on Route 17 in Gloucester County.

Route 33
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile operation to install rumble strips at various locations on Route 33 in Gloucester County.

King and Queen County

Route 33
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile operation to install rumble strips at various locations on Route 33 in King and Queen County.

Route 218 (Caledon Road)
Saturday, Feb. 5 Sunday, Feb. 6, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile work zone to remove storm debris from shoulders. Flaggers will alternate one-way traffic near the work zone. Expect delays.

Guardrail Repair
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures or flagging operations on the following routes for guardrail repair:

  • Route 3 near Fletcher Chapel Road
  • Route 3 eastbound near Lambs Creek Church Road
  • Route 218 near Vertical Ridge Road
  • Route 218 near Indiantown Road 
  • Route 301 near Davis Drive
  • Route 610 (Indiantown Road) near Route 218

Middlesex County

Route 17
Monday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile operation to install rumble strips at various locations on Route 17 in Middlesex County. 


Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Ladysmith Safety Rest Area, I-95 Southbound
Construction is underway to expand the number of parking spaces for trucks and larger commercial vehicles at the Ladysmith Safety Area in Caroline County on I-95 southbound. The rest area remains open to travelers, and existing parking remains available. Construction is anticipated to be complete in May 2022.

City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County
 
Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
Chatham Bridge reopened to vehicle traffic in October 2021 after being closed since June 2020 for an improvement project. Periodic lane closures will be needed as construction work to repair the substructure, below the bridge deck, continues through April 2022.
 
Essex County

Route 665 (Dodge City Road) Bridge Replacement
Dodge City Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Beverly Run for a bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic until mid-Feb. 2022. Approximately 5 miles using the following recommended routes:

  • Route 665 (Dodge City Road)
  • Route 625 (Passing Road)
  • Route 618 (Beverly Run Road)

King George County

The right, southbound lane on Route 301 between Roseland Drive and Barnsfield Road will remain closed through Feb. 2022 for bridge construction and realignment of the roadway as part of a Maryland Transportation Authority project to replace the Nice-Middleton Bridge over the Potomac River. The right, northbound lane on Route 301 in the same area is also closed through April 2022.

Richmond County
 
Route 637 (County Bridge Road)
County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding in summer 2021. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is under development.
 
Stafford County
 
Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge is anticipated to be complete in December 2021.
 
Route 3 Business Bridge Rehabilitation
A bridge rehabilitation project is underway on Route 3 Business eastbound over the CSX railroad tracks, between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. A single lane is closed continuously on weekdays, beginning on Mondays at 6 a.m. through 8 p.m. Fridays. All lanes are open on weekends. The weekday lane closure is anticipated to be required through Jan. 2022.
 
Spotsylvania County
 
Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive
Be alert for construction activity on Route 1 near the Commonwealth Drive intersection, where work is underway to build a nearly 700-space Park & Ride commuter lot. Be alert for work zone barriers along the shoulders of Route 1, and lanes that are shifted to the east near the Commonwealth Drive intersection. Project completion is anticipated in May 2023.
 
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
 
Town of West Point and New Kent County
 
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Westbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. This lane closure is anticipated to remain in place until spring 2022. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair post-tensioned bridge girders.
