I-95 Southbound
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Garrisonville)
Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single southbound lane closure starting at 9 p.m. between these interchanges, near mile markers 148-146, to move construction equipment for Improve 95 project construction. At 10 p.m., I-95 southbound will reduced to one lane until 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. except on Friday, Jan. 21, all southbound lanes will reopen at 6 a.m.
Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Friday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect varying lane closures for survey work near the American Legion Road overpass at mile markers 139-138.
Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Wednesday - Thursday, 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. Single southbound lane closure for Improve 95 project construction.
Stafford County
Route 3 Business Westbound
Monday, 7 a.m. – Friday, 5 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 westbound from Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road for bridge work. Crews are working under the structure over the CSX railroad.
Route 17 Northbound
Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure between Sanford Drive and McLane Drive for traffic signal work, in connection with Improve 95 project construction.
Route 17 Southbound
Tuesday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure between McLane Drive and Sanford Drive for traffic signal work, in connection with Improve 95 project construction.
Route 670 (Sanford Drive)
Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closures on Sanford Drive between Route 17 and Simpson Road for traffic signal work, in connection with Improve 95 project construction.
Hospital Center Boulevard
Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single eastbound and westbound lane closure between Route 1 and Courthouse Road. Overhead sign installation work, in connection with Improve 95 project construction.
City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County
Chatham Bridge
Tuesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 Business eastbound and westbound between the city and River Road. Crews need the lane closures on the Chatham Bridge to remove storm debris from the bridge deck and drains.
Caroline County
Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)
Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure on northbound Route 207 at the bridge over CSX railroad tracks for routine bridge inspection.
King George County
Route 301 Northbound
Starting
Wednesday, Jan. 19, northbound lane on Route 301 near Roseland Drive will close through April 2022 for bridge construction and realignment of the roadway as part of a Maryland Transportation Authority project to replace the
Nice-Middleton Bridge over the Potomac River.

Caroline County
Ladysmith Safety Rest Area, I-95 Southbound
Construction is underway to expand the number of parking spaces for trucks and larger commercial vehicles at the Ladysmith Safety Area in Caroline County on I-95 southbound. The rest area remains open to travelers, and existing parking remains available. Construction is anticipated to be complete in May 2022.
City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County
Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge
Chatham Bridge reopened to vehicle traffic in October 2021 after being closed since June 2020 for an improvement project. Periodic lane closures will be needed as construction work to repair the substructure, below the bridge deck, continues through April 2022.
Essex County
Route 665 (Dodge City Road) Bridge Replacement
Dodge City Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Beverly Run for a bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic until early Jan. 2022. Approximately 5 miles using the following recommended routes:
- Route 665 (Dodge City Road)
- Route 625 (Passing Road)
- Route 618 (Beverly Run Road)
King George County
The right, southbound lane on Route 301 between Roseland Drive and Barnsfield Road will remain closed through Feb. 2022 for bridge construction and realignment of the roadway as part of a Maryland Transportation Authority project to replace the Nice-Middleton Bridge over the Potomac River.
Richmond County
Route 637 (County Bridge Road)
County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding in summer 2021. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is under development.
Stafford County
Route 1 at Potomac Creek
Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge is anticipated to be complete in December 2021.
Route 3 Business Bridge Rehabilitation
A bridge rehabilitation project is underway on Route 3 Business eastbound over the CSX railroad tracks, between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. A single lane is closed continuously on weekdays, beginning on Mondays at 6 a.m. through 8 p.m. Fridays. All lanes are open on weekends. The weekday lane closure is anticipated to be required through Jan. 2022.
Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive
Be alert for construction activity on Route 1 near the Commonwealth Drive intersection, where work is underway to build a nearly 700-space Park & Ride commuter lot. Be alert for work zone barriers along the shoulders of Route 1, and lanes that are shifted to the east near the Commonwealth Drive intersection. Project completion is anticipated in May 2023.
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
Town of West Point and New Kent County
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Westbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. This lane closure is anticipated to remain in place until spring 2022. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair post-tensioned bridge girders.
