Who Is "Go Away Gertie"

and who are "Go Away Gals"

In the genre of Benjamin Franklin's "Poor Richard" which was a pseudonym allowing Franklin to render opinions and publish recommendations under the name of "Poor Richard," "Go Away Gertie" is also a pseudonym allowing us to comment, observe, and recommend through her on all things pertaining to today's female travelers - a very important economic force that is destined to become even more significant in the future.

The caricature we have chosen to represent "Go Away Gertie" appears in her segment above. It shows a bedraggled female with a smile on her face and an "I can do" expression exuded in her perky step. It is actually a reproduction of an original signed work of art of the late F. A. (Arlo) Cooper on display here in our offices.

Artist F. A. Cooper also originated the cartoon series, "It Happened in Kansas," which ran as a syndicated cartoon in many newspapers for many years. Cooper died in Great Bend in 1968 and is buried in Lincoln County, KS. His widow Velma, now deceased, was a multi-time traveler with Please Go Away™ Vacations. The Kyne House Museum in Lincoln, KS has a room dedicated to Arlo's paintings and articles.

"Go Away Gals" are the ever-increasing number of female travelers who are heeding "Gertie's" admonition to "go away."
