TRU Toasts Leo Hill and His Legacy

Leo Hill would have turned 100 in December of 2023, and the Trustees of the Leo Hill Trust came together with TRU leadership to raise a glass in remembrance and celebration of his life and legacy. The final disbursement of Leo’s Trust was made in December, bringing his total giving legacy for TRU to over $1M.

Leo Hill (1923-2014) was a WWII pilot and a community leader who found great success in the banking industry. Born in Missouri in 1923, Leo’s family moved to Pueblo, CO when he was a sophomore in high school, graduated with honors from Colorado College, and married his high school sweetheart Betty Lue Demaree who preceded him in death.

In 1963, Hill joined the First National Bank in Boulder. He became president and CEO of that bank in 1964. In 1969 he was central in the formation of the bank holding company, Affiliated Bankshares of Colorado. Throughout the remainder of his career, he held various leadership positions within the bank as well as the holding company including president and CEO of both institutions. He retired in 1988.

The Leo Hill Trust has been an ardent supporter of TRU Community Care, in particular in supporting the initial investment in TRU PACE and the establishment and growth of our TRU Tele-Care Center. Guests gathered at the Louisville office to tour the Tele-Care Center and to hear from TRU Chief Nursing Officer Jim Woodard who spoke to the impact of Leo’s investment and the exciting future of telemedicine, specifically how it has propelled TRU to innovate to meet the extraordinary challenges facing the delivery of healthcare in the immediate future.

TRU Updates

Please Help TRU Find Badly Needed Volunteers in Your Area

TRU has been expanding service to the southern areas, including suburbs surrounding and south of Denver.

Volunteer Services needs an entire base of volunteers to serve this area. Our best efforts are from you - either talking with friends, neighbors, and relatives or posting on your Nextdoor or other social media for caring individuals age 18 and older.

If you live anywhere outside of Boulder County - particularly in these cities to the south, please email Volunteer Coordinator Liane Shaffer at lianeshaffer@trucare.org. This will help us learn how to reach more communities like:

  • Denver
  • Parker
  • Centennial
  • Englewood
  • Littleton
  • Aurora
  • Highland Ranch
  • Golden
  • Wheatridge

While these volunteer roles are often "companionship,” to visit patients where they live;

there are also needs for others such as:

  • Veteran Companionship
  • Massage Therapy, Reiki, or Comfort Touch
  • Errands or Organizational help
  • Pet Therapy, Aromatherapy
  • Notary volunteers

Our expansion also includes regions surrounding Boulder County such as

Broomfield, Brighton, Thornton, Westminster, Northglenn, Commerce City, Federal Heights, Arvada, Superior, Berthoud, and Firestone/Fredrick Dacono areas

More wonderful caring people like you can be hard to find; let's share the goodness of TRU!

Please email lianeshaffer@trucare.org for more information

Light refreshments will be provided, and you will have a chance to connect with others and feel supported in these dark winter months.

Guests are invited to bring a photo or memento of their loved one to place on our memory table. You may also bring a story, poem, or reading to share during a designated time in the service or just come and sit quietly.
