Mission Moment

TRU Empathy and a Heart of Gold

This came through the wires via our Facebook page last Wednesday. I think it 's an inspiring mission moment, exemplifying the values of those who come to work at TRU.

Hi! I wanted to send this message because one of your staff deserves recognition for being an amazing human, and being a wonderful helper to the elderly.

I was in the Louisville King Soopers parking lot in Colorado around 10:30 AM today. As I was going into the store, a young grocery store worker was trying to help an older lady to her car. Today is VERY cold and windy, and the elderly lady was very clearly struggling to walk in the weather. I personally have a background in working with seniors, so I went over to see if I could assist and was joined by another onlooker - Maria from TRU Community Care. She was in her scrubs, so I assume she is working today.

Maria not only helped coach the lady into holding onto her instead of the cart, but she had some of the kindest and most reaffirming words that completely calmed the panicked, elderly woman. When the elderly woman started to fall, Maria talked her through not falling and continually told her that she was going to be okay. Maria stayed with her and physically supported her in the freezing weather until the elderly lady was able to safely take a seat in her car.

Maria is clearly one of those people who has a heart of gold, and I honestly was so impressed with the dignity, empathy, calmness, and professionalism she maintained. Maria helped prevent what could’ve been a negative life-changing event for this woman, and she did it while on a break from work.

Because she was in her scrubs, I thought you all should know how wonderfully she represented your organization today. She’s everything I would ever hope someone is who works with seniors - whether anyone is around to see it or not..
