Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Event
Thank you to all volunteers and staff who came out for TRU's Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day event to experience a meaningful and moving ceremony.
TRU nurse and Air Force veteran Scott Pastor welcomed the attendees, provided context for the proceedings, and called forth the American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard for the presentation of the colors - the American flag, POW/MIA flag, Colorado flag, Vietnam flag, and the flags of all the branches of the military, after which all veterans present were recognized according to the military branch in which they served.
The main event was the Vietnam veterans commemorative pinning ceremony, during which all who wished to come forward were presented with special pins honoring their service. by Vietnam Veteran and TRU Community Care Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer, Larry Sturgeon. After the pinning ceremony, TRU Volunteer Coordinator Becki Parr, coordinator of the day's proceedings, welcomed the Vietnam veterans home.
The event ended with the presentation of handcrafted quilts to three Veterans by Longmont Quilt Guild's Bee Sew Brave and remarks from City of Boulder Mayor Aaron Brokett. The ceremony was both opened and closed with the melodious voice of Jen Zadel, who sang the National Anthem and the "Star-Spangled Banner."
