Opening Night Gala + Four Samosas

Thu, Nov 3rd, 6:00 PM @ SIFF Cinema Egyptian

Set entirely in LA County’s “Little India” against a backdrop of South Asian snack shops, fancy-goods stores, sari palaces, Indian pizza restaurants, and populated by revolutionaries, Kannada Kutta drama groups, Indian entrepreneurs, H1B techies and wannabe hip-hop artists. Four Samosas tells the story of Vinny, an un-motivated Indian-American rapper, who learns that his ex-girlfriend, who he never really got over, is about to get married. So Vinny decides to launch an ill-advised heist on her father’s grocery store, to steal her dowry and disrupt her engagement.

Against the darkening backdrop of New Delhi's apocalyptic air and escalating violence, two brothers devote their lives to protecting one casualty of the turbulent times: the bird known as the black kite.

British-Indian woman, Anamika (played by Kalki Koechlin), returns home to find her mother suffering from the onset of dementia. Mother and daughter, strangers for over a decade, find themselves thrown together once again and Ana is forced to become daughter and mother, care-giver and secretary and detective, shield and scalpel. Around her, in the neighbourhood she escaped, Anamika begins to discover a woman she never knew at home, alive in memory, in anecdote, in music she doesn’t understand.

Meet the winners of the second annual Tasveer Film Fund and be the first to see their films BEPAR, DOS BROS FORCE and ZINDAGI DOBARA. Then join us for our TSAFF Awards Ceremony where we present prizes to the best films at this year's festival. After the ceremony, we will toast this year's filmmakers at our Closing Reception.
