TSAHC Recognizes Top 2017 Lenders
2017 was a tremendous year for TSAHC's homeownership programs. In partnership with a network of dedicated mortgage loan officers, TSAHC helped 5,758 families purchase a home last year. That's more than triple the number of families our homeownership programs assisted in 2016.

In total, our home buyer programs provided $863 million in mortgage loans and $35 million in down payment assistance grants in 2017 and helped 1,437 first-time home buyers obtain a federal tax credit worth up to $2,000 each year over the life of their mortgage.

Each year TSAHC recognizes the three top-producing loan officers. With more than 1,453 loan officers originating at least one loan in 2017, this is a tremendous designation. This year's awards are presented to:

Below are February 2018 excerpts from On the House , a blog TSAHC launched in 2014 on affordable housing topics. We invite you to drop by On the House as we explore important issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources.
Program Spotlight: The Texas Foundations Fund
Through the Texas Foundations Fund, TSAHC partners with nonprofit organizations across Texas in support of housing services that meet the critical housing needs of very low-income households. To date TSAHC has invested more than $2.9 million to support critical home repairs and accessibility modifications, as well as supportive housing services.
The Unexpected Fastest Growing Segment of the Housing Market
A recent Urban Institute article covered five surprising things about the fastest growing segment of the housing market. But the biggest surprise may be the segment itself—single-family rental (SFR) housing. Since 2006, the SFR segment has grown from 31 percent to 35 percent of the country's rental market and outpaced growth in both single-family homeownership and multifamily rental housing during that time.
How the New Tax Law Affects Texas Home Buyers
The new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act took effect on January 1, 2018 and includes a few important changes to the tax code that may affect both new and existing homeowners. The new tax law caps the amount of deductible mortgage interest at a maximum mortgage amount of $750,000.
