Below are May 2019 excerpts from On the House , a blog TSAHC launched in 2014 on affordable housing topics. We invite you to drop by On the House as we explore important issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources.
The Current State of Homelessness
The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) released their State of Homelessness 2019 report earlier this year. NAEH offers this report to chart progress in ending homelessness and “serve as a reference for policymakers, journalists, advocates, and the public on trends in homelessness, homeless assistance, and at-risk populations at the national and state levels.”
TSAHC Partner Spotlight: Enterprise Community Partners
This post is part of our TSAHC spotlight series to help our readers get to know our mission, industry, and partners a little better. This week we interviewed Monica Gonzalez with Enterprise Community Partners (Enterprise) to understand the important work their organization does.
Recognizing Teachers This Week and Throughout the Year
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time when teachers are recognized for their hard work and dedication to students and families. Originally established by Congress in 1980 as National Teacher Day, the National Parent Teacher Association expanded teacher appreciation to a full week in 1985 when the first full week of May was formally designated as Teacher Appreciation Week.
Who Really Pays for Affordable Housing
A frequent question about affordable housing is who pays for it and how. A common assumption is that taxpayers foot the bill for the construction of affordable rental housing or rents for residents that live there. In reality, that's not always true. In this entry, we will look at some of the common ways affordable housing is paid for and specifically the role subsidies play to help provide clarity.
