TSC wins SIA grant
The Subaru of Indiana Automotive Foundation awarded a $2,476 grant to Burnett Creek Elementary School teacher Brandy Shiflett. The money will be used to purchase calm down kits to help students safely work through their emotions.
The Purdue University College of Education is offering a free spring professional development series “Teaching Elections, Despite the Politics.” The sessions will cover how to equip teachers and their students with the knowledge and skills to understand elections, regardless of who is on the ballot.
TSC plans to create a video showcasing how our students and staff give back to the community during the holiday season. If your school, club or employee group will be participating in a food drive, collecting items for the animal shelter, toy drive or another community outreach activity, please share information and photos with Sue Scottby Wednesday, December 18.
Nominate an outstanding woman
The YWCA Salute to Women is a celebration of remarkable women in the Greater Lafayette Community. Consider nominating a woman who deserves to be “saluted” for her accomplishments to our community.
Social Emotional Learning in schools is about “who we are and how we want to be.” SEL is integrated in to all of our interactions with others. Social emotional learning builds on the foundation that attachment is the prerequisite for all learning and the carrier of all development. Social emotional learning appeals to a “felt sense” as the brain feels first, then thinks and learns. SEL emphasizes procedures, rituals, extreme predictability and relationships. Check out this article full of simple tips on how to promote SEL in the classroom.
How do you INtegrate?
Some staff members at Wea Ridge Middle School start the day with yoga. They say it is a great way to get centered and relaxed before the day starts.
Be sure to use #TSCINtegrate to encourage others when you tweet/post pictures of how you are integrating movement into your daily routine.
