TECHNOLOGY MATTERS
Digital wellness
Use a physical alarm clock

Does your phone charge on your nightstand overnight and serve as your alarm clock? Instead, you should consider getting a separate alarm clock and charging your phone in another room or on the other side of the room. This will enable you to wake up without attending to your phone before you even get out of bed.

This also allows you to wake up and think your own thoughts, which helps prevent immediately introducing stress and anxiety into your day. Making your bedroom a device free zone can also do wonders for your sleep. The blue light your phone emits is detrimental to quality sleep and can even disrupt your circadian rhythm.

TSC State of Mind
with Megan Ulrich
For some, the New Year’s Holiday brings an opportunity for goal-setting and a fresh start. For others, it can bring the guilt of an inevitable unmet New Year’s resolution. Although the Covid-19 pandemic has presented many challenges and heartache, it also presents the opportunity to approach our New Year’s goals differently, and in a potentially more healthy manner.
TSC State of Mind
In a recent article by the American Medical Association found here, doctors encourage an approach focused on smaller, SMART-oriented, and mental-health related goals that could help us find success by focusing on what we can control, maintaining connections, and letting go of guilt.

INSPIRATION MATTERS
with Kathy Nimmer

Starting the semester remotely was not ideal, and yet, it challenged all of us to consider mindset. Nathan Sheets, new to McCutcheon in the physics department, reminded me of this when reflecting on how much he learned about his students during the November remote segment. "One student was even working on a car in the garage and showed me what he was doing when class was over! I never knew he worked on cars," Nathan wrote. Looking for the good does not negate the difficult, but it sure is more pleasant than fixating on it!
