With Kathy Nimmer
As the sponsor of a large service organization, I am heavily involved in the execution of several high-profile events. One recent occasion involved a ceremony run by numerous students in the organization. I had the pleasure to simply watch them do their thing. Two students pulled together to cover for a missing third student who arrived late. Three musicians performed flawlessly with gorgeous background music. Four officers spoke with clarity and deliberation in front of a large and intimidating crowd. As I listened to everything go as smoothly as possible, I realized that this excellence rose partly from good planning and partly from each of those students trusting the other. They were better than they expected to be because they believed in each other and rose to each other's belief. They held each other up and made a difference. It was synergy pure and simple. It made me look harder for a shared vision such as theirs elsewhere, and happily, we tend to find what we seek.
