UPCOMING ART EVENTS AND NEWS
Workshop Description
2022 is the year of Black Tiger in the Chinese zodiac. The tiger represents its brave character and leadership. Jiha Moon has designed an image for a coloring page titled “Brave Black Tiger 2022” in which the powerful tiger is eating up COVID and bringing all of the positive energy to the world in 2022.
Participants will receive a screen-printed design and Moon will discuss the symbolism and meaning in the piece while the group applies their own color scheme to complete the image using color pencils and watercolor. Moon will present inspirational images from her personal archive to help guide the coloring process.
Supplies
Bring Colored Pencils or Watercolor (Screen prints will be provided for in-person attendees that evening and Zoom attendees will be able to pick up their screen prints at the Tallahassee Senior Center from Tuesday February 15 – Thursday February 17 from 8am-5pm and Friday February 18 from 8am-12pm at reception – located on the ground floor)
Jiha Moon Bio
Moon gestural paintings, mixed media, ceramic sculpture and installation explore fluid identities and the global movement of people and their cultures. She says “I am a cartographer of cultures and an icon maker in my lucid worlds.” She is taking cues from wide ranges of history of Eastern and Western art, colors and designs from popular culture, Korean temple paintings and folk art, internet emoticons and icons, fruit stickers and labels of products from all over the place. She often teases and changes these lexicons so that they are hard to identify, yet stay in a familiar zone.

Great Artists Series: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec... and the Birth of the Modern Print
Thursday, February 3, 1:30 – 3:00 pm
Sometimes a new technology arrives at just the right time; for a new middle class seeking fun, for entrepreneurs hoping their theaters and clubs will thrive and for Henry Toulouse-Lautrec who sought acceptance as a handicapped person and as an artist documenting famous entertainers, addicts, and women of the night. For the brief span of a decade, Toulouse-Lautrec’s posters were the most widely exhibited art in the world. His work graphic design has stood the test of time; his lithographs advertising Moulin Rouge define 1890s Paris in the minds of most of us. Hybrid class at TSC and on Zoom. Instructor Tom Friedman. $5 fee. Adult subject matter. Click HERE to register
Great Artists Series: Pablo Picasso – The Great 20th Century Innovator
Thursday, February 10 1:30 – 3:00 pm
From about 1900 until mid-century, Pablo Picasso either founded or dominated every fine art movement. Much of the art he crafted in his Blue, Rose and War periods is utterly unique often containing troublesome statements about the world as he saw it. His cubist and classicist works were groundbreaking, literally changing the nature of artistic creation; his surrealist works were unlike those produced by most artists in the movement and easily among the most accomplished. Though he changed styles often, his production remained exceptional. He was the foremost visual artist of the 20th Century; we will journey through his 96 years as we examine his oeuvre. Hybrid class at TSC and on Zoom. Instructor Tom Friedman. $5 fee for each session. Click HERE to register
