TSC Teams Up With Salisbury Bank & Lime Rock Park To Support The Corner Food Pantry & Little Guild Animal Shelter

On Friday, July 10, the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Salisbury Bank and Lime Rock Park to help support the increased need of The Corner Food Pantry, a food bank located in Lakeville, CT.

The Tri-State Strong Food Drive was held from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., at the Lakeville branch of Salisbury Bank. A contactless drop-off site was established at the bank’s rear parking lot, allowing participants to safely pull up and open their trunk for volunteers to remove items. Signs and flags posted along Main Street welcomed the community to participate in the event, as did flyers posted at bank branches and area storefronts, and mentions in the Lakeville Journal , on Robin Hood Radio and -- of course -- on social media sites.

The community responded! Nearly 50 bags of groceries were collected, completely filling the Lime Rock Park Catering van, along with $1,100 in cash donations. Mary Taylor, William Pitt Sotheby's Realtor and President of the pantry's board, shared her appreciation to all who participated in the food drive.

The financial strains placed on Tri-State families due to the pandemic have increased the demands on the pantry. Since March, the number of recipients they serve each week has doubled if not more so. While many free or low-cost food services closed during the quarantine, The Corner Food Pantry instituted new safety procedures and remained open to provide this critical service.

Several pet items were donated for our furry friends in need, allowing us to drop off supplies to The Little Guild Animal Shelter . The Tri-State Strong Food Drive was only made possible by the contributions from you and others in our community. Thank you to each and everyone one of you who answered the call.

If you’d still like to donate, you may do so directly at The Corner Food Pantry at 80 Sharon Road in Lakeville, CT. To learn more, visit their website at www.thecornerfoodpantry.org .

THE STORIES WE TELL
A full year of planning disappeared in a trice this spring when the COVID-19 crisis forced the Berkshire International Film Festival to postpone its annual festivities for at least a year. Artistic director, Kelley Vickery, began to cast about for other opportunities. Now BIFF and Shakespeare & Company are teaming up to present a summer-long pop-up Berkshire Drive-in on Shakespeare & Company’s Lenox campus.

After several months of weekly meetings via ZOOM, the Salisbury Rotary Club met in-person, with social distancing & pizza, on the Salisbury lawn of its new President, Peter Fitting. The meeting focused on ways to continue the club’s “good works” and recruiting new and younger members who want to have fun while serving others. FMI:
