Message from the Executive Director

The Schools Foundation is excited to receive a generous donation from Huntsville High senior, Eric Moore. Eric was named the 2024-25 Gatorade Alabama Boys Cross Country Player of the Year. He earned this prestigious honor for his excellence in athletics, academics, and community service. The Gatorade Player of the Year program honors one athlete in each state across 12 high school sports and awards a National Player of the Year in each category.

As part of the program’s commitment to social impact, each winner also receives a grant to donate to a community organization of their choice. We are so thankful that Eric chose to donate this grant money to The Schools Foundation’s Patrons & Players program.

The "Patrons and Players" program supports students as they seek to enhance their lives through sports, music, and the arts. The Patrons and Players program provides funding for the extracurricular endeavors of students through financial donations from individuals, families, and grants. We believe that no student should be left on the sidelines based on financial need, and we strive to find donors who are as passionate as we are that all students deserve a chance to play. Donate and help a student today!

Sincerely,

Jeanne Baird Greer

LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

VISIT HUDSONALPHA

Liberty Middle School HOSA students had the opportunity to visit HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and engage in the Biotechnology: In Living Color labs.

The students learned about biotechnology, practiced micro pipetting, and created electrophoresis gel.

Using Skittles, students conducted a candy dye electrophoresis experiment. This experience offered them a valuable insight into career options at HudsonAlpha in a hands-on lab setting.

SCIENCE IN ACTION

Sparkman Middle students are diving into Week 3 of the HudsonAlpha SPARK program, and let’s just say…future scientists are in the making!

This program pushes the boundaries of what middle schoolers can do in genomics and biotechnology—and students are rising to the challenge in every experiment.

We’re grateful for partnerships with HudsonAlpha which brings hands-on, cutting-edge science to MCSS classrooms.

POWER UP WITH HAMPTON COVE MIDDLE

GREENPOWER TEAM

The Hampton Cove Middle School Greenpower Team and their school sponsor, Ms. Melissa Snider, have many words to describe their love for Greenpower. Ms. Snider states that many of her students join Greenpower because of their hopes to drive the car they build, but many of them stay because they fall in love with every aspect of Greenpower.

When asked about their favorite memory over the past three years of Greenpower, the students, without hesitation, all exclaimed "Definitely going to Talladega!" These students, and all of the HCMS Greenpower Team, had the opportunity to race their car at Talladega SuperSpeedway. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from J.S. Solutions, the HCMS Greenpower Team had full access to the pit area and were able to store their car and other equipment in a professional NASCAR garage. The students agreed that even though they didn't win, or even place in the top 10, it was still an experience they will never forget!

Ms. Snider says her students are always working hard and have all developed a love for not just driving the car but building and perfecting the car. She is often heard telling her students, "A bad day racing is still a great day racing."

Who doesn't love something that is fast and simple?
