Letter from the Executive Director

The Schools Foundation presented the second session of Principally Speaking Network for the 2024-25 school year. Principally Speaking Network “PSN” is a professional development program for school administrators designed to assist participants in increasing student achievement through more effective leadership practices. We enjoyed hearing from the author of our book study, Dr. John Hodges, and retired superintendent, Mr. Bill Hopkins. Their messages focused on removing barriers and making connections with students. We also enjoyed hearing from a student panel of local high school students.

I would like to thank our sponsors for making the PSN program possible!

Additionally, we received several generous donations and grants this month. A big "thank you" to everyone who supports our programs, educators, and students.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Baird Greer

MADISON COUNTY SCHOOLS STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Graces of Gurley recently announced the official book launch of The Rebel’s Hike, a Young Adult Fiction/Christian/Fantasy novel authored by Joan K Smith and Sophie Swinford, a mentor and mentee duo. Sophie is a student at Madison County High School.

The Rebel’s Hike takes readers on a gripping adventure, following the lives of a group of middle school students as they navigate challenges and make choices that ultimately define their paths. Joanie and Sophie’s journey began with a shared love of the outdoors and many long hikes together, starting when Sophie was in the 6th grade. Through these moments, they forged a meaningful connection, inspiring them to co-write a book that would speak to the trials and growth that young people often face.

HUNTSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Senior Zadie Boyd embodies the New Century Technology High School spirit, having fully embraced New Century’s wide class selection in engineering, computer science, and biomedical sciences. Initially drawn to engineering and computer science, Zadie has had opportunities to find her true passion in biomedical engineering. Her journey between strands showcases the success of magnet students no matter their academic and career pursuits.

Zadie describes her journey as one filled with exploration and discovery. “It’s very easy to get sucked in and just fall in love,” she says. Zadie’s dedication goes beyond just academics.

In her junior year, Zadie founded the New Century Technology Women in STEM club to foster inclusivity and empowerment among female students. “I wanted to create a space where we could feel connected,” she explains “It was important for me to provide specific opportunities and resources in such male-dominated fields.” The club, which is continually growing and hosting speakers and opportunities weekly, reflects Zadie’s leadership and inviting personality.

Who doesn't love something that is fast and simple?
